Blazers Tryout Monday Included D-League's Dwayne Jones; Jake Voskuhl

UPDATE: The Blazers are signing Shavlik Randolph.

If you haven't been following Blazersedge today, it was reported by Joe Freeman at the Oregonian that either Dwayne Jones or Earl Barron were expected to be at the Portland Trail Blazers practice this morning, filling the hardship exemption the Blazers are expected to receive due to the Greg Oden injury.

Once Freeman arrived at practice, however, he tweeted:

Ok so I was wrong. Nobody new at practice today.

Not sure as to why he speculated that one of the two were the Blazers pick, I worked this afternoon to figure out what happened.

I've received word from a league source that it definitely isn't Dwayne Jones.  I did find out however that both Jones and Jake Voskuhl (yes, that Jake Voskuhl) were in Portland Monday for a workout, though Portland had no plans to sign either player following the workout.  There was no mention of Barron.

The remaining possibilities include Barron if he was indeed at Monday's workout or former Blazer Shavlik Randolph.  Randolph was recently released by the Miami Heat.  Rod Benson, the leading vote getter in this poll, has not been contacted by the Blazers front office and is seemingly not a candidate.

I've found no confirmation that Barron was at the workout, but his Iowa Energy play the Fort Wayne Mad Ants tonight at 7pm CT, so we should be able to find out at that time, if not sooner.

Would have loved to add Boom Tho

but you can’t argue against bringing in Shav. The guy is a legend.

boom

as much as i would have loved him in the nba, i knew it was going to be shav. he was on the team last year, he has size, and unless earl barron had the greatest workout of all time, i thought it was pretty obvious who portland was going to go with. as least we can take solace in the fact that jake voshkul was rightfully denied a roster spot.
