Coleman Helps 14ers Knock Off Vipers In Thriller

Colorado 131, Rio Grande Valley 124

HIDALGO, Texas, Jan. 31, 2009 - Dominique Coleman had 24 points, nine rebounds and eight assists Saturday night as the Colorado 14ers remained perfect against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers this season, winning a 131-124 shootout.

Josh Davis had 22 points and 12 rebounds and Eddie Gill added 20 and seven assists for the 14ers, who had seven scorers in double figures for the second straight night. Colorado has won three in a row and six of seven.

Colorado improved to 12-1 all-time vs. Rio Grande Valley and 5-0 this season, but it wasn't easy. Vipers guard Craig Winder scored a career-high 29 points to help RGV rally from a 13-point deficit.

Stanley Asumnu’s two free throws with 1:23 to play forged a 119-119 tie. Gill answered with a bucket, Coleman made two free throws and Gill hit a jumper as Colorado regrouped and held on.

Billy Thomas scored 19 points and Lamar Butler added 14 for Colorado, which shot 53 percent (41-of-77) from the field and made 40-of-48 free throws.

Trent Strickland scored 25 points, Alpha Bangura added 22 and Asumnu 21 for the Vipers, who shot 47 percent (43-of-91) but dropped their second straight game.

The Vipers (10-17) do not play again until Feb. 8, when they host Austin. The 14ers (16-7) host Austin on Wednesday.
