Welcome New Readers And Lurkers Alike!
Dear Everyone,
Welcome to Ridiculous Upside. My name is Scott and I'm your usual host. Jon L has been contributing quite frequently, and ocassionally we still hear from a few others. Still, I feel like we don't really know each other, mostly because it's usually us doing all the talking, and usually to the four or five regulars we have here.
I've done this post before, not long ago, but today, I was looking at the numbers. By Tuesday, we will have surpassed 7,500 unique visits in five days this month. Since we were born nearly one year ago (May 14th, 2008), that's more visits than we've had in 1/3 of the months. There are tens of thousands hundreds of you who read this site every day and don't say a word. I don't know where everyone is coming from, but yesterday, there were 1,436 unique visits, and there were four days that we had more than you here this week. Regardless, we had just 3 comments.
What am I going to do about it? I'm taking a stand! No more lurking. I am calling you out. It is time to stop being a wallflower and start talking to the pretty girl/boy across the room. Believe me, I'm pretty.
This site feels like there's a group of people in the middle of a bar (by group, I mean 8ish) talking away and hiding in the shadows are 50 times as many other pairs of eyes just watching quietly ... It's kind of creepy.
Here's the challenge:
- Start contributing!
- If you are a lurker (i.e. a reader who's never posted a comment), sometime in the next 24 hours post your first comment.
- You don't have to say much if you're shy.
- If you aren't sure what to say, try this: "I heart ____" and fill in your favorite NBA prospect, breakfast cereal, D-League team, player, etc. It's up to you.
- You don't even have to explain your choice (unless you heart Alton Ford, Antonio Meeking, or Jasper Johnson, in which case you had better explain yourself)
- Or if that's too much, try this: "Hi, I am a lurker"
- Just so we know you are here.
- Comment anywhere. In this story. On the mock draft. Wherever.
The challenge starts now. I want to hear from you people. Sign up and comment - start fan posting your own mock draft, fan shotting pictures of Mateen Cleaves at the 7-11, take advantage of the loveliness that is SB Nation. Don't just sign up here at RidiculousUpside. We've got plenty of other great blogs here, including Bright Side of the Sun, a Phoenix Suns blog that I stole this from, Welcome To Loud City, if you're into sweet graphics and the OKC Thunder, Rufus On Fire, if Bobcats are your thing, and even Golden State of Mind, because, well, they believe (or used to anyway).
Cheers!
P.S. To get to know me better, follow me on Twitter @RidiculousScott. There, you will find my wonderful 140 character thoughts on life, such as this recent beauty I twittered to Jon L: With research, I've found the best bloggers wear glasses. In fact, doughbellied, glasses-wearin D-League bloggers get chicks. lots.

I heart Jasper Johnson
Nah, j/k. If anybody, I heart Renaldo Major.
I just don’t comment much cuz I talk to you enough on Twitter.
Seriously
Nobody likes Jasper Johnson, except Dime Magazine, and presumably the people of the city of Albuquerque that goes to D-League games (all 400 of them).
Think Naldo will be healthy by Sunday?

Don't worry, I was once like you.
I’d been reading the site for awhile but had never commented, then recently got the itch to start contributing and here we are. You don’t have to be that extreme with it, but seriously, we’d like to hear from you.
And welcome.
Whoops
Should I have given bonus points to everyone that mentions Josh Davis as their favorite player? Would that be over the top?

Ugh
I don’t even know what to think about that, except that apparently Toronto likes Pop, a D-League call-up, than Jawai, a second round pick – at least right now.

Pops!
Did you get to finish off the Pops interview? He was on NBA XL, a show here in Canada and the interview was pretty good. I also caught a few pics of him at Chris Bosh’s b-day bash…
Yep. Just transcribing, etc.
Will more than likely be up Monday, as RU doesn’t fare as well on the wekeends…

Not really a lurker
But this site is a much check every single day. I love it and I love the stories. I root for every single one of these guys to make it to the league as I know it’s their dreams. So when I see someone like Mike Taylor, Dontell Jefferson, Ime Udoka, Matt Barnes and others come through the D-League and stick it’s great.
I now know why people follow Minor League baseball because it’s kind of interesting to be a passive observer to someone on a journey to their destiny.

I’ve been a lurker for some time. Thanks for all the great information on this site. I must say, I heart Blake Ahearn and come here nearly everyday to get the latest on him, but others now too.
Welcome. Thanks for reading!

Really appreciate the work you guys put into this. As a Bucks fan, Ramon Sessions has given me plenty of appreciation for the D-League. For a many of these guys, the only thing stopping them from being productive NBA players is opportunity…it bugs me when I see 30 year old stiffs getting significant playing time.
by richardhkirkando on Mar 27, 2009 11:49 AM EDT reply actions
Sessions
Is a stud. Also, thanks for posting.
Toughest thing writing about this is knowing the majority of these guys won’t get a shot at the bigs. As you said, all they need is an opportunity, but the majority never will get it.
I could be wrong on some of the guys, but with the majority of the guys we talk about, they could fill a niche in the league, and definitely be better than some of the guys currently with NBA contracts..

I appreciate your efforts here
I don’t appreciate the fact that Alando Tucker only spent a few games in Des Moines, therefore limiting our ability to laugh at his somber play.
If the Suns knew what they were doing
I think you should get another chance to see him in action.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a clue how they plan to play Stinson, JamesOn Curry, Othyus Jeffers, Demetris Nichols, and John Edwards. Iowa might end in a trainwreck this season.

Really? A train wreck?
As for Tucker…he certainly wasn’t aggressive during his time in Iowa. I recall Nick Nurse being a bit surprised by that and he said he asked Tucker if he wanted plays run for him and he said no.
Tucker is a good kid but he’s no D Wade. His game isn’t about volume shooting even though he’s got a solid offensive skill set.
With the Suns, he’s been stuck behind Barbosa and JRich and not gotten enough minutes to really know for sure. I still think he’s a very smart player with…ridiculous upside. Or at least decent upside.
I interviewed Tucker for about 10 min the other day at Suns practice. Haven’t posted that yet, but he’s a guy that understand his role on an NBA bench and is a great locker room presence. He’s also been taken under Shaq’s wing for whatever that’s worth and has a great personality which actual doesn’t sound like a complement now that I typed it.
Anyway – I am still a Tucker fan since seeing him play for the Suns in Vegas where he lead the team with his maturity and poise and confidence (as opposed to DJ Strawberry who was overwhelmed…in Vegas). He’s an efficient scorer and a solid defender. He finishes after contact very well and he’s shooting over 40% from 3 this season. Nurse and Gentry both speak highly of him.
I am guessing his play in Iowa while on rehab might have seemed somber given the situation but trust me, it is not in character.

Well
To begin, I was also overwhelmed in Vegas, so please cut DJ Strawberry some slack.
Tucker was a great player last season in the D-League, but I didn’t see him play in his short stint this season – therefore, I’m obliged to agree with Phoenix Stan himself.

Why will the Energy train wreck?
Too much talent? Loss of Sims? Over eating of the Iowa pork tenderloin?
Blogging Suns Basketball
by Seth Pollack on Mar 27, 2009 4:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Loss of Sims
Too much talent, but all of it on the perimeter.
John Edwards, their new big, (may remember him from brief NBA stints), doesn’t fit well with the team, as he’s a big stiff white guy that’s not going to board or score like Courtney.
Without a big, their schedule will be tough, as most opponents are boasting some of the better bigs in the D-League.
Chris Hunter in Fort Wayne, Earl Barron in LA, Dwayne Jones in Austin, Kurt Looby in RGV (He’ll eat up a lot of boards and have a similar block party to Benson’s 5 last night), Richard Hendrix in Dakota, and Alexis Ajinca in Sioux Falls.
Nurse has done well with the ever changing dynamics of this team, but the loss of Sims at this point, with this remaining schedule, will more than likely hurt. Really bad.

I heart Demarcus Nelson, the kid absolutely baptised Richard Jefferson in the NBA preseason (seriously, youtube it). I think he’s got what it takes to stick with a team once he expands his game.

anti blake
i am very anti blake he is stupid, in my opinion and very over rated.. Yes he can make a couple 3’s here and there but..
He has almost 4 turnovers a game
Ahearn only gets 2 rebounds a game (one rebound every 20 minutes!!!!)
He has 100 turnovers (7th in the league) about 1 turnover for every 5 shots he takes!!!
His team has lost 4 straight to teams including Tulsa (11-32)
by Fanaticflashfan.blogspot on Mar 27, 2009 4:52 PM EDT reply actions
May want to re-think that...
Did you have a bad day at work?
I’d like to hear how you think Blake is “stupid”. He’s probably one of the more intelligent players in the D-League, knowing what his dream is and tirelessly working to achieve that dream.
Ahearn earned a Gatorade call-up last season and was signed for the rest of the season, along with another this season. He scored 15 points twice in the NBA last season, both with less than 32 minutes of playing time.
Ahearn is a 6’3" shooting guard, he’s not paid to get rebounds, he’s paid to shoot.
His turnover rates for a 2-guard are high, but so are his 5.5 assists.
“A couple 3’s here and there” have equated to the most ever in a D-League season with seven games left, and being called up at the beginning of the season.
Also, Dakota did lose to Tulsa, but have you looked at that team? Did you watch the game? First, it was no fault of Blake’s. Second, Tulsa is a much different team than the team that picked up the majority of those 32 loses.

So Kyrylo Fesenko
is more like JJ Redick? He flicks (flips?) off the refs, than proceeds to play sub-par D-League ball for an NBA player. Similar?
