Great Article

ESPN.com Bill Simmons wraps with Malcolm Gladwell, author of Tipping Point, Blink and Outliers, who surprisingly enough knows quite a bit about the NBA and NFL. Both talk extensively about the draft and about NBA tactics, focusing on the underutilization of the full-court press.

“You can easily find 10th, 11th and 12th men to make that press work. You know how many athletic swingmen are out there? Oodles. There's always another Dahntay Jones or Josh Powell killing himself in the D-League hoping for a chance.” states Simmons

There is also an interesting comment made about if the NBA's all-white guy team could compete with the NBA's all-black guy team. And, according to Simmons, foreigners don't count as white guys. My All-American White-Guy team- Bird, West, Maravich, Stockton, Walton and Bill Laimbeer.

Heres the link, it's spit into three separate articles:

brilliant...especially this bit

….I’ve just been reading several of the books that were written about the fall of Bear Stearns, and those books illustrate another side of this story. Bear Stearns didn’t fail because the employees were incompetent, because they weren’t good at what they do. They failed because they were good at what they do. They were so successful for so long that they grew overconfident and arrogant and complacent. The biggest obstacle to success is success. My biggest worry for LeBron is that he wins the title this season. And if he wins again next year, and the year after that, then what do you have? A guy still in his mid-20s who has already done it all, and has no reason to doubt his own skills and judgments, ever. ……

Is it possible that the Cavs win three championships in a row, then have to blow up the team just to keep LeBron happy?

Yeah I read this...

It’s always nice to get a prespective on sports from someone outside the usual sports reporting world. I get tired of the same talking heads incestually covering the same talking points, Gladwell/Simmons was a ncie break from that.
