This is the final public appearance of the Bakersfield Jam mascot "Swish" performing in front of over 12,000 people at Brighthouse Amphitheatre at Riverwalk Park Sunday, May 3rd, 2009.

Scott's Note: I started tearing up when Switch started doing the Stanky Legg. Long Live Swish!

This is a sad, sad day...

and whoever plays Swish needs another mascot job, because it’s really hard to think of various dances/trots/hand-waves to do for 5 straight minutes when you’re alone on a stage. Props to that guy.

I was thinking the same thing

Couldn’t have been easy continually dancing without any other participation. If that was me, I would have brought somebody up to the stage and proceeded to serve them, Swish style.

I think a 6'4" Swish

would be too much to handle.

True

And I’m a bit on the chubby side.
Better idea: I should have been in Bakersfield yesterday, went up on stage, and served Swish.
Also, what are your thoughts on him doing this yesterday, when the team was already folded for a few days? Dedication!

Yeah no kidding...

he probably got paid in Mateen Cleaves Martini coozies leftover from Fan Appreciation Night. He was also probably allowed to sleep with one of the Jam dancers, before they get sent back to the bride ordering agency.

Dedidcation....

yea that did take some dedication. it was also hard to be on that stage for 5 straight minutes alone. but somehow it worked. the people loved it.
i could have just quit and said no on going to ths event.
I’ve done hundreds and hundreds of events and
i love being a mascot and entertaining people.

Anyone looking for a mascot or know a team thats needs one?
I am for hire.

i also did not get paid by Mateen or sleep with any of the dancers.
and all that for 25 bucks. can you say overworked and underpaid?

Thanks Swish....

you were my favorite, and you did a nasty soulja boi.

I did a post on the Blazer's Edge about mascots of the NBA. As you can see, there is no way all those are better than Swish

http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/2/26/772590/best-and-worst-mascots-of

Some are outright fugly and untalented, so if you can maybe keep the costume and are willing to move… Charlotte, NJ and San Antonio look somewhat similar but worse. We are not that happy with our own one btw, but we would probably prefer Squatch (Sonics) over Swish :)

Side Note: I hate San Antonio's mascot

He was at Summer League and was a bully to the little kids. He grabbed a kid by the hair and threw him to the ground because they were messing around with him. Probably the most shocking thing I’ve ever witnessed.

Good god...

Pops has got to get on that. Not good PR. THey should just go ahead and scrap the Cayote and hook up the de facto Bear in uni.

I don't think it was mentioned

We actually had to send him to the locker room – kind of grounded him.

It would have been better to shoot him with a Tranqualizer dart

So he didn’t break character in front of the kids.

nasty....

nasty as in a good way, or
nasty in a bad way?

In a good way Swish...

always in a good way. My only complaint is that you didn’t lay down some rhymes in that Bakersfield Jam/Swish rap video.

rap

i know….i wanted to but it was like a last minute thing…..

It's alright....

you’re still my favorite (now former) D-League mascot. ;(

Goodbye Swish.

You were enjoyed.

Thanks for your work Swish

The Celtics fired Lucky a few months ago (for undisclosed reasons) and are yet to hire a new mascot. I’m not sure how you’d fit with the Irish but give it a try. A stanky legg like that is a winner in all time zones.

In all time zones?

Can he be a traveling mascot? Spreading the good will of the D-League to NBA franchises across the states?

He should be....

that Fox-thing can really soulja boi.

traveling....

i actually thought about being a traveling mascot….
it would work great and i think “swish” would grow in popularity more than “he” is right now
not to be conceited but people love “swish”

i also will look into the celtics mascot opening….

I'm starting to love Swish

Dang “he’s” good!

I'm a bit disappointed it took you this long

to start loving “him”

I'm jealous

WE have Blaze….

To be fair to Blaze really really really little kids seem to do better with “him” [actually Blaze’s sex is unknown as far as I know. At least Swish is identified as a male [ score another point]].

But Swish seems more down with it, if you know what I’m sayin’.

Seriously Swish, your gig looks cool, and I hope you get to continue it somewhere in some fashion.

What a co-inky-dink

In my poking around about the Jam online, I see that Bakersfield has a 1A minor league baseball team (quite well established) caled The Blaze….Mascot is Heater The Dragon….maybe Swish could go work with Heater, or better yet Blaze the Cat could go work with Heater and we get Swish!

It you can tell….I am “working” in the wee hours manning a cubicle, and need to come up with these vicarious scenarios to keep my brain from lapsing into a coma…

Haha

I like this idea. Hopefully Swish sees it.. I think this might be the ticket!
