D-League Select Summer League Team Announced

vNow with more D-League!

The D-League announced their "Select" team that will be competing in this year's Vegas Summer League, comprised of players who weren't invited to play by any NBA teams (at least in Vegas).  Looking at the roster below, it's hard to understand why some of these guys didn't get other offers.  Wasn't Othyus Jeffers within a hair of a call-up last year?  Doesn't Trey Johnson have some NBA experience?  At any rate, hopefully these guys can show everyone else what they missed out on and work their way into training camp invites.  We write about these guys a lot, so in lieu of full breakdowns here are some quick notes on each player.  I also made sure to update our list of Summer League rosters, so remember to check that page if you're unsure of who's playing for whom.

Coleman Collins F 6'9" 225 Efficient scorer, didn't get consistent playing time but should've.
Gary Forbes F 6'7" 220 Efficient scorer, good passer, inconsistent rebounder
Will Frisby F 6'8" 235 Solid post player, decent rebounder, occasionally fouls too much
Marcus Hubbard C 6'9" 230 Prefers playing on the perimeter, no idea why D-League insists he's a C
Othyus Jeffers G/F 6'5" 200 Great defender, athletic, good off the dribble. Full profile here
Jasper Johnson F 6'8" 275 Decent point/rebound averages, but has struggled with weight
Trey Johnson G 6'6" 216 Good three-point shooter, shaky defense. Full profile here
Kurt Looby C 6'10" 230 Terrific shot-blocker and rebounder, still raw offensively. Full profile here
Walker Russell G 6'0" 170 D-League single-season assist record holder. Full profile here
Curtis Stinson G 6'3" 215 Good all-around PG, decent rebounder for his position

How did Othyus Jeffers not get a camp invite?

There a few others that are puzzling too. These are some good players, generally.

Not speaking as a D-League PR Guy

But that’s a good roster. Very few that don’t have a shot at making an NBA club and all are pretty good and/or have Ridiculous Upside.

What happens

if the D-League team dominates the NBA teams? Plus all these guys most likely have a chip on their shoulder by not getting picked by an NBA squad for their summer league team. Can’t wait to see how they do.

I'm not sure what happens

Maybe they get their own NBA team? I’d vote for that.
