How NBA Teams Would Look If They Kept Their Draft Picks

I didn't look through this completely to make sure it's exactly correct, but seems that it's worthy of discussion since Logan Rothman seems to have put plenty of work into it and there's not much else going on today. -- Scott

I decided to go back and look at what NBA teams would look like if every player in the league played for the team that drafted him.

When all said and done, I think the Bulls, Suns, and Bucks look pretty good, whereas the Mavericks, Lakers, and Bobcats could do a lot better. Feel free to comment on your thoughts about these teams.

I'm trying to forget...

I try to forget that the Bucks traded Nowitzki for Tractor Traylor, who averaged 4.8 ppg for his career. But somehow it keeps popping up. Anyways, nice post.

Wow, looking at that Suns list is incredibly depressing.

Rec’d anyway.

That would be depressing. Completely forgot they drafted Rondo.

Yeah...Terribly depressing

I guess we don’t draft so bad after all…It’s just the players we keep vs the ones we let get away is out of whack.

We gave up on the draft after picking Amar'e apparently.

Oh, come on now.

You have Samardo Samuels on the undrafted team over Anthony Tolliver?

Picking some nits to provoke more discussion:

Why do you have Noah as a PF and Aldridge as the C? Noah is a C, and LMA is a PF.

Why do you have Drew Gooden starting out of position instead of Perkins?

I’d personally mess aeound with the MIA starting backcourt. I know Caron Butler is hurt, but he’s still a better player than Wright. Or perhaps play Wade at PG and start Butler and Wright.

Why do you have Cousins starting at PF and Thompson at C? Cousins is a C while Thompson is a PF/C.

Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

wow, nice idea

glad to see my Bulls would be one of the deepest teams in the league. also loaded: Boston, New Orleans (Kobe and Paul in the backcourt – wow!), Suns (Rondo would win 6th man award easily). Teams that would suck: Wizards, Nets, Heat, Lakers, Mavs, Bobcats and of course the undrafted team.

most fun teams to watch: i think it’s a tie between the Suns and N.O.

some debatable choices for the starters, but a very good work overall. i rec’d it too.

Nice job. That Hornets team looks real nice. Milwaukee gets a nice bump from having Dirk as well.

Thanks for the Knicks reminder

still dunno how you trade a lottery pick AND Marcus Camby for a guy who just missed most of the season with knee surgery.

Pacers would be vying for the #1 pick with that lineup. Yuck.

Draft day trades impact a lot of this...

guys like Dirk, Pau and Kobe were dealt on draft day in steals, and would be huge helps to their original drafting team. But if they weren’t draft day deals (and how often are those picks selected by the trading team not the picking team), would they have taken the same player?

That Atlanta team looks pretty nice. Cleveland too. But I would wager on a Bulls Hornets finals if this were the real life teams.
