The NBA Announced New Development League Affiliates

The NBA and the NBA Development League, the official minor league of the NBA, announced the new affiliates today for the 2011-12 season.

The locations of the NBA affiliates might seem odd, but considering so many NBA teams have bought into the D-League this offseason, there's no one to blame but the big league clubs themselves for not having closer affiliates.

After taking out the direct affiliations from teams actively looking to use the D-League, the remaining 21 NBA teams were forced to choose between the seven D-League teams not currently partnering with a major league team.

"We're very excited that an all-time-high nine NBA teams will have exclusive, ‘one-to-one' relationships with their NBA D-League affiliates this coming season," NBA D-League President Dan Reed said in a press release announcing the new affiliations. "This clear trend of NBA teams buying into the NBA D-League is not only a testament to our past success, but also the sign of a very promising future."

I said this over at BF

But I’m glad the (Washington) Wizards got matched up with a good coaching staff in Iowa, otherwise I’d say they’re falling dangerously behind their peers.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

Well

Coach Nurse will probably find himself on an NBA roster next season, but Nate Bjorkgren is still more capable than most.

Bakersfield, eh? That’s cool.

That’s a bit of a flight for the Raptors assignments though.

Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

Could be worse...

Could have a solely owned team in the Dakotas, when you are in CA. Can’t move your own team?

Go Nevada Wolf Pack!

They could have

But chose not to this year. And it’s not nearly as bad as you make it sound.

Despite his personal history running D-league franchises, David Kahn really hasn't bought into using it as a real minor league.

Go figure.

He also hasn’t particularly taken flyers on d-league talent, Sundiata Gaines notwithstanding. He’d rather sign away an Anthony Tolliver as a free agent after someone else kicks the tires…
