NBA Mock Draft: Philadelphia 76ers Select Dante Exum from Australia

Michael Dodge

SB Nation's NBA Network conducted a mock draft with bloggers from each team site making or trading "their" team's pick. We continue with the next pick in the 2014 NBA Mock Draft with Liberty Ballers selecting guard Dante Exum from Australia.

NBA Mock Draft Pick #3 -- Dante Exum, Guard, Australia

SB Nation's 76ers blog Liberty Ballers explains the pick:

With Embiid's injury nagging at us, we've got Exum 2nd on our board behind Wiggins. His history with coach Brett Brown doesn't necessarily mean the Sixers will take Exum, it just means they know him and have scouted him more than any other team.

While not as smoothly perfect a fit as Wiggins would have been with the Sixers building blocks, Dante will be given the opportunity to become the dynamic scorer he has the potential to be. Obviously, the jumpshooting concerns of an MCW-Exum backcourt are real, but Exum is a better catch-and-shoot player than he's given credit for, and we trust that with a few actual basketball players next to him giving him room to breathe, MCW's jumper will improve substantially.

Together, they form one of the most imposing defensive backcourts in the league, using length and quickness to stay in front of the offense, and liberally stepping into passing lanes. They'll be fun as hell in transition, and with the speed at which Brown's Sixers play, that's hugely important. He gives Brown another versatile weapon and ball-handler to confuse defenses.

We're confident in Exum becoming a top flight scorer in this league at the 2-guard. Though we considered trading MCW to allow Exum to play the point, we like the idea of pairing them at least initially and if it's determined with time that they can't play together, we'll make the decision then.

Also, the accent, come on.
