He turned them down. Good move by him not to get locked up. It's an interesting development in a development league. Call up crazy players limit themselves.

That's what I got so far, from my original source, on the Marcus Williams Saga (Real GM reported today he won't be signing). Will update more as I get it.

"My teammates and coaching staff have really helped put confidence in me. I think the D-League is very important because it gives guys a chance to get experience and exposure. I was very excited when I got the call to come up. I just came in thinking I had nothing to lose."

Just confirmed that the Jazz will be signing Othyus Jeffers, whose second ten-day contract expires Tuesday, for the rest of the season.

According to NBA Fanhouse's Chris Tomasson's Twitter account. Good for OJ.

The Mavericks have decided to pass on D-League center Dwayne Jones after bringing him in for a job audition Tuesday, according to NBA front-office sources. Dallas is looking for an extra big man to fill the sudden vacancy created by Erick Dampier's finger injury but decided against signing Jones to a 10-day deal after flying him in from Austin for an afternoon workout.

-From Marc Stein. I'll delve into this more tomorrow. If you want to know what Mavs fans think, it's because the D-League sucks. Thanx, Mavs fans.

"Baylor alum Kevin Rogers is a young big with physical tools and is an ideal candidate for development and evaluation at the NBA D-League level. In addition, with some of our recent injuries, he addresses a real need on our roster as a strong, mobile big. Kevin has a great opportunity with our team, coaches and staff, and we look forward to his development with the RGV Vipers," Vipers General Manager Gersson Rosas said.

From a Vipers Press Release. Rogers played for the Boston Celtics in Orlando this Summer.

Bobby Simmons’ value to the Nets rests with his status as an expiring contract, an $11.24 million expiring contract. Same with Tony Battie, who makes $6.61 million. But if the Nets can’t deal them by Feb. 18, they’re likely to be released so they can join another team.

-From NetsDaily That'd leave two roster spots open, and presumably they wouldn't mind filling them for the remainder of the season with a potential-laden D-Leaguer. We've talked about it a bit, but is there anyone else you'd add?

"It’s tough to guard Dwyane Wade," Jay Triano admitted to the media after the game. "But during a timeout he came over to the coaching staff and told us he thought he could do it better a different way. He thought of the adjustment himself and we agreed to let him do it and he was much better the remainder of the game."

Ryan McNeil at Hoops Addict has this post about how former D-Leaguer Sonny Weems is impressing his coaches and teammates with his defensive efforts.

One good thing that the D-League does is to give kids the opportunity to play against good competition instead of sitting on the bench. You can get better. I don’t think you can get better by sitting on the bench. The D-League has some good players but they don’t get to the NBA. Sometimes it’s because of guaranteed contracts, sometimes they need to get stronger, sometimes they have to learn a different position. I think that’s a good thing that the NBA has done.

"We’ve done a little research on it," MacKinnon said. "Over the past three seasons, 87 percent of players who were called up were on teams that were winning 55 percent of their games or better, so winning does matter. I think that’s another thing we’re trying to impress on our players. Teams don’t want you from a losing situation; they want you from a winning situation."

Idaho Stampede coach Bob MacKinnon on why he likes to win, apparently.

The Jazz have a short list of three to four players under consideration, including Utah Flash guard Dontell Jefferson, former Flash guard Kevin Kruger and former Jazz guard Keith McLeod. "You got a plus for all of them and a minus for all of them," O'Connor said. They also might consider a handful of other D-League point guards, including Curtis Stinson and Mustafa Shakur, with a focus on auditioning for next season. If they do sign a player to a 10-day contract, O'Connor said he expected that player to practice Tuesday.

From Ross Siler at the Salt Lake Tribune.Takeaways from that article are that both myself and O'Connor had the same D-League guards in mind (or Ross Siler reads Ridiculous Upside) and that it isn't likely that whoever they choose will play in their game Monday if their expected to be at practice in Utah on Tuesday. Of those mentioned, only Keith McLeod plays Monday.
