Nate Bjorkgren will be named the next head coach of the Dakota Wizards, and the first since the Golden State Warriors bought their new D-League team this summer, according to a report from the Bismarck Tribune's Lou Babiarz. Bjorkgren spent the previous three seasons as an assistant for the Iowa Energy.
Bruce Pearl is rumored to be taking his talents to the NBA Development League, or D-League as it's now referred to, after being fired by the Tennessee Volunteers amid a good bit of scandal surrounding the final seasons of his NCAA basketball coaching career.
Nearly everyone beat me to the latest Bruce Pearl to the D-League rumors, this time to be the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks affiliated Texas Legends as first reported ESPN's Marc Stein. Since there isn't much else going on that's worth blogging about, however, I've decided to throw my two cents in as well.
Nancy Lieberman made the announcement last weekend that she is moving from the Texas Legends bench to the D-League team's front office next season. The Hall of Famer's next move could be even further up the chain of command -- Lieberman could be the general manager of an NBA team.
Dave Leitao will be named the second head coach in Maine Red Claws history, according to a source with knowledge of the hiring process. Leitao has never coached in the professional ranks, but was last seen guiding the Virginia Cavaliers to a 10-18 record during the 2008-09 NCAA season.
Nancy Lieberman is taking the next step in her Hall of Fame career, moving from the sidelines into front office for the Texas Legends for the upcoming NBA Development League season. Not surprisingly, she's making the move not only to break yet another barrier, but also with her family in mind.
The Houston Rockets made the announcement Friday that they will promote Chris Finch to their coaching staff, according to a press release on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers website. This isn't new news, but at least the release means that it is finally official.
The Cleveland Cavaliers decided to buy D-League team last week. Without any NBA news happening due to the lockout, their new team in Canton will seemingly be the team's focus for the time being.
The Golden State Warriors have already completed one coaching search this offseason when they decided that Mark Jackson was the best man to replace Keith Smart as the team's head coach. This experience should help them, then, as the team has now begun a search for the head coach of their new NBA Development League team.
