Latavious Williams, the first ever high school player ever to be drafted from high school into the NBA Development League, took that record one step further Thursday night when the Miami Heat selected him with the 48th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. The 21-year-old Williams averaged 11.3 points and 8.0 rebounds for the Tulsa 66ers this past season, but improved considerably over the course of the season.
With the NBA Draft just barely a week away, I figured today might be a good time to begin a new feature - who's your favorite?
2010 NBA Draft Workouts - Now Featuring Top Players I know, I know - I had originally promised Monday Morning Mock Drafts, but with the SB Nation comprehensive mock coming soon I figured I'd do my best to update the upcoming workouts.
Latavious Williams, the first NBA Draft prospect to go straight from high school to the D-League, participated in a pre-draft workout for the Toronto Raptors today. Latavious Williams' box score is pretty good for a 21-year-old with hopes of being selected in this Summer's NBA Draft: In 30:53 off of the bench, Williams scored 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting and grabbed 16 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end.
With the D-League All-Star break now upon us, it seemed to be the right time to sit down and talk to Tulsa's Latavious Williams about his first season in the D-League so far. Williams topped off the first half of the D-League campaign with a six-point, 12-rebound performance in a 102-90 victory for Tulsa at Los Angeles.
Latavious Williams is a player I've been watching quite a bit as of late because as the first player to make the jump straight from high school to the D-League, his story will could make, or break, the system for everyone hoping to follow in his footsteps.
