Nancy Lieberman, NBA General Manager?

Nancy Lieberman made the announcement last weekend that she is moving from the Texas Legends bench to the D-League team's front office next season. The Hall of Famer's next move could be even further up the chain of command -- Lieberman could be the general manager of an NBA team.

I don't think a woman is going to come out of college, or come out of the WNBA and be a head coach in the NBA. I don't think that's very realistic on any level. I think it'll be someone who is investing their time, energy and effort. They'll get a break because they've created some relationships. They'll come through the D-League or will help on an NBA team. Sometimes the greatest thing is that internship you invest in yourself.

Nancy Lieberman Moving To Texas Legends Front Office

Nancy Lieberman is taking the next step in her Hall of Fame career, moving from the sidelines into front office for the Texas Legends for the upcoming NBA Development League season. Not surprisingly, she's making the move not only to break yet another barrier, but also with her family in mind.

From Steve Warden of the Fort Wayne Journal Gazzette: With the Legends comes their coach, Nancy Lieberman, the former Old Dominion basketball great who, at 18, helped lead to the United States women's team to the silver medal in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Lieberman is the first woman to coach a professional men's team. And so far, gender has had no effect, since the Legends come in with a 5-1 record, which is third-best in the D-League. (The Legends won that game too)

Liberty's Anne Donovan on Coaching Opportunities: "I've had some women that have stepped to the plate"

as women's sports advocates celebrate the newfound opportunity for Lieberman, hopefully we don't lose sight of New York Liberty coach Anne Donovan's "first" and the pathways of success for the WNBA's other 5 female coaches. In an interview with Swish Appeal today, Donovan talked about having the opportunities to "just get her foot in the door".

Nancy Lieberman Talks About Her New Job

Great piece from Scott on Nancy's ground breaking new job as the head coach of the new D-league team from Texas. Hopefully, this signals more cross pollination and coordination between the D-league and WNBA. That would be nice to see.
