Jeff Bower Among Candidates For Sioux Falls Skyforce Coaching Job

The Sioux Falls Skyforce employed NBA veteran Mo McHone as the team's head coach last season, but following a second-straight terrible finish, the NBA Development League team has decided to change directions for the second time in less than two years.

They picked an interesting group of candidates to right the ship, too, as the great Terry Vandrovec reports that the team has interviewed Joel Abelson, Jeff Bower, Gene Cross, Jason Glover, Taylor Jenkins, Doug Marty, Joey Meyer and Sean Rooks for their head coaching position.

Abelson, Cross, Glover and Jenkins have all paid their dues as D-League assistants (and would all be solid choices for the job), Meyer had achieved a lot of success at the minor league levels and with DePaul before being fired by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants last season, Rooks was the Skyforce assistant for part of last season and Doug Marty has been around the world after formerly working for the North Charleston Lowgators ... but Bower is the most interesting name on the list.

Bower's name has been bandied about for NBA jobs the past couple of seasons, but the longtime member of the New Orleans Hornets front office has apparently decided that it might be easier to get back to where he wants to be by spending some time in the D-League. Whether or not the Skyforce would be able to pay the former NBA head coach/general manager what he's worth is still up for debate.

No timeline has been set as far as when the coach-hiring process will be complete, but considering everyone was interviewed last week in Vegas, it's probably safe to assume the Skyforce will probably move to the next step pretty quick.
