CSKA Moscow will return to America this October as part of the 2013 Euroleague American Tour as the headlining team and will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 7 and the San Antonio Spurs on October 9.
CSKA Moscow was the 2013 Russian champion and made it to the Euroleague Final Four, where they lost to Olympiacos Piraeus. They rallied to finish third with a hard fought 74-73 win over FC Barcelona Regal.
Euroleague legend Ettore Messina is in his second stint as head coach of CSKA Moscow and boasts a roster that includes former NBA players Sonny Weems, Nenad Krstic and Jeremy Pargo who just signed with the club this summer. Messina has drawn some interest from the NBA and recently worked as a consultant with the Los Angeles Lakers before electing to return to the bench. Quin Snyder spent last season on CSKA Moscow's bench as an assistant coach but will join Mike Budenholzer's new staff in Atlanta this season.
This will be third trip to the states for CSKA Moscow in the past five seasons. In 2008, CSKA traveled to take on Orlando and Toronto. They returned in 2010 and faced Miami, Oklahoma City and scored a win against Cleveland to become the first Euroleague team to defeat an NBA team in the United States.
There will be two exhibition games in Europe between the NBA and the Euroleague as part of the NBA Global Games. The Thunder wil travel to Istanbul, Turkey on October 5 to take on Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul while the Philadelphia 76ers will face Uxue Bilbao Basket on October 6. Oklahoma City and Philadelphia will play each other on October 8 at Machester Arena to complete the schedule.
