Maine Red Claws Announce Trade and Training Camp Invites

The Maine Red Claws and Grand Rapids Drive have agreed to a trade on the eve of the D-League Draft.

The Maine Red Claws announced Friday afternoon that they have made a trade to acquire a 3rd round pick in tomorrow's D-League Draft. In exchange they are sending the rights to Daniel Orton and their 6th round pick to the Grand Rapids Drive.

One can assume that the Red Claws have their eyes on a prospect that they think will be there in the 3rd round of tomorrow's draft to make a move like this. The D-League does not allow draft day trading, so they did not have the option to survey picks as they are made tomorrow and make a decision. Instead, they pulled the trigger and moved up. They gave up the rights to Orton who played in 24 games for Maine last year, averaging 11.3 points and 7.2 rebounds.

The Red Claws were busy Friday as they also announced that three returning players have earned training camp invites: Chris Babb, Sherwood Brown, and Jermaine Taylor. Babb played 33 games with Maine before earning a 10-day contract with the Boston Celtics and then being signed to a multi-year deal with them. He was waived during the Celtics' training camp. Babb averaged 12 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in his time with Maine.

Brown played 30 games with Maine averaging 7.2 points and 5.1 rebounds. Jermaine Taylor's name might ring a bell as he's played a total of 65 games in the NBA between time with the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings. Taylor only played two games with Maine before sustaining a season-ending knee injury last season.

The Red Claws also announced that Tim Frazier, Rodney McGruder, and Christian Watford have been assigned from the Boston Celtics to the Red Claws as 2014-15 Affiliate Players.
