Idaho Stampede Have Solid Core for Training Camp

The Stampede announced a 17-player training camp roster for the camp that opened on November 3rd. Like all teams, they must cut down to at most 12 players with 10 being active and two inactive.

The Stampede open their season at home against the Erie BayHawks on November 14th. However, before that time comes, they will have some difficult decision to make regarding their roster. The camp is comprised of eight draft picks, three returning players, five players from open tryouts, and one affiliate player.

Kodi Augustus F Mississippi State Draft
Brian Barkdoll C Northwest Nazarene Tryout
Tre Bussey G Georgia Southern Draft
Jack Cooley F Notre Dame Affiliate
Nick Covington G Weber State Draft
Quinton Doggett F Southern Draft
Aaron Dotson G Utah Tryout
Jermelle Fraser G SUNY Maritime Tryout
Shane Gibson G Sacred Heart Draft
Reggie Hearn G Northwestern Returning
Dominique Kirk G Texas A&M Tryout
Kevin Muphy G Tennessee Tech Returning
BJ Shearry F UC Irvine Tryout
Dexter Strickland G North Carolina Returning
Ryan Sypkens G UC Davis Draft
Tyrrel Tate F Fayetteville State Draft
Joel Wright F Texas State Draft

This is certainly a group with a wide range of skills, and the challenge for the coaching staff will be to select the 10-12 players that can help this team improve on last season's 24-26 record. No longer do they have the star power of Pierre Jackson and Dee Bost, so they will be looking hard for replacements if they can find them.

Returning Players

Kevin Murphy -- Murphy burst onto the scene last year for the Stampede playing in 34 games and averaging a league high 25.5 points to go along with 5.3 rebounds. He played the NBA preseason with the Utah Jazz but only appeared in one game where he went 2/3 and finished with four points. After he was waived many speculated whether or not he would follow Dee Bost's path and head overseas, but it's clear Murphy wants to stay close to the NBA and this season he should definitely garner a lot of NBA attention.

Draftees

Tre Bussey -- While they are a couple of quality players the Stampede were able to nab in the D-League Draft, Bussey is clearly the prize for them. Bussey had a huge senior year at Georgia Southern which catapulted him onto NBA radars where he's stayed all summer long leading up to the season. The Utah Jazz tried to sign Bussey to use him as an affiliate player but he had already signed his D-League contract so he had to go into the draft pool -- lucky for the Jazz he was still there when Idaho select at No. 7. Bussey and Murphy will combine for an explosive scoring back court.

Affiliate Players

Jack Cooley -- Cooled played the 2013-14 season with Trabzonspor in the Turkish TBL after going undrafted in the 2013 Draft. He played 28 games and averaged 12.6 points and 6.9 rebounds. Cooley brings and endless motor and uncanny rebounding ability to the Stampede. He will look to fill the void left by the loss of Richard Howell and Dallas Lauderdale from last year's team.
