On a special Tuesday night edition of the RidiculousUpside.com Podcast, our staff welcomed Bleacher Report's NBA National Columnist Howard Beck to the show.
The writer recently had the opportunity to speak with new NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. Among Silver's new initiatives include increasing the agent limit of the NBA Draft to 20 years old. Currently a league that hosts those players who choose to play out the mandatory waiting period in the D-League, such a rule change would undoubtedly impact the minor league.
Would the new rule tempt more young guns to play in the D-League in lieu of a two-year experience overseas? Or better yet, would the lack of potential money earned ultimately prove to be a deciding factor for a prospect spending two years in college before becoming a pro? Beck discussed all such possibilities with us at length, doing a great job of weighing the pros and cons of each one.
What's more, Beck also pondered and suggested a few things the NBA could possibly do to further embrace the D-League as a more traditional minor league and make it more appealing for players in the years to come.
What does Beck think of Commissioner Adam Silver, in comparison to David Stern? What motivated him to make the move to BleacherReport.com? Does he miss the New York Knicks beat? All of these questions, and more, are answered as the writer chats with the RU staff.
As always, Keith Schlosser and Dakota Schmidt also keep the discussion going by addressing some of the more pressing matters surrounding the D-League, including which prospects stand the best chance at getting called up following the NBA trade deadline.
