NBA Mock Draft Pick #2 -- Brandon Ingram, Small Forward, Duke
SB Nation's Lakers' blog, Silver Screen And Roll, explains the pick:
Silver Screen and Roll took Brandon Ingram because he seems to be quite clearly the best player in the draft with Simmons off the board. The team also has a desperate need on the wing that Ingram should fill for years to come. His length and quickness should eventually make him a terror defensively, and his shooting gives the Lakers some spacing to unclog the toilet that was their offense for the last two years.
Once Simmons was off the board, there was really no other way to go. The team and their fans should be thrilled with this selection.
Ridiculous Upside analysis: This selection is the right move because he's both the best player on the board and an amazing fit for the team. Ingram will immediately help the team on both ends of the court, especially on offense. His solid perimeter jumper (shot 40% from 3 with Duke) and solid on-ball abilities could allow him to be the team's go-to offensive weapon. Alongside that, his length (6'10 with a 7'3 wingspan) and quickness should make him into a defensive monster if he keeps developing his frame.
