Ron Baker Bound To Shine With Westchester Knicks

It was announced today that Ron Baker will be signed by the New York Knicks. Baker should be able to eventually help out the Knicks, but he will probably first start in the D-League with the Westchester Knicks.

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Ron Baker refused to lose at the college level when he was a member of the Wichita State Shockers' basketball team. His numbers might not jump off the page at you and he has limitations athletically, but Baker will always give you 110 percent when he is on the floor. Baker went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft, which was not a surprise, However, it's also not a surprise that a team is taking a chance on him as the New York Knicks recently announced that they were going to sign Baker.

Hence, Baker played relatively well for the Knicks summer league team in Orlando. He averaged 14.0 PPG, 2.8 SPG, and shot 37 percent from deep in five summer league games. Baker obviously did something right in summer league because he is now a member of the Knicks. He should be able to help out the team down the road with his grit, toughness, and shooting ability, but Baker will most likely start in the NBA D-League with the Westchester Knicks.

As a result of that, Baker should be able to shine on both the Westchester Knicks and the New York Knicks this season, it just might take some time before we see him taking in the floor in Madison Square Garden. Ron Baker did play for a mid-major school in college, but he can  handle the New York spotlight if called upon. During Baker's stint at Wichita State, the  team that went undefeated in the regular season, and also went to a Final Four. Baker was not a top draft prospect because he there are definite worries about his speed and athleticism, but he truly does make a team better through his intangibles.

For instance, Baker is very gritty player that goes for loose balls and just plays his butt off. He'll probably never be an All-Star but he could be in the league for a very long time, as he understands his limits and knows his strength. Due to his four years at Wichita State, Baker's very mature for a rookie, and he should be able to become a better shooter in the D-League and the NBA as he won't be relied on for offense that much. At Wichita State, he and Fred VanVleet were the go-to scorers, Baker was arguably their No. 1 option, which is why he sometimes struggled for the Shockers. As long as Baker is not the No. 1 option on offense, your team will be in good hands if he is on the floor because he can help a team win in so many ways.

Overall

Furthermore, Ron Baker is going to play for the New York Knicks at some point this season, but do not be surprised if you see him in the NBA D-League first. Baker is ready for the NBA, and once he finds his groove in the D-League, Baker should get a call up to play in the NBA. Knicks' fans are going to love Baker for his toughness, refusal to lose, and his outside shooting.

Baker is not your typical Knick, but fans are going to love Baker.
