Next month, the basketball world will have their eyes glued onto Los Angeles, California due to the 2018 NBA All-Star Weekend. While most of the attention will be placed onto the actual Association, the fellas in the G League will have their opportunity to shine on that Saturday afternoon. As is the case in prior years, the league’s best dunkers and perimeter shooters will have their opportunity to shine in the Slam Dunk and Three Point Shootout, respectively.
One big difference that we’ll see this year is how we won’t actually have a G League All-Star Game. Rather than having the very best of each conference competing against each other, a team of G League stars will go against the Mexican national team in an event that will be called the NBA G League International Challenge.
Although we won’t have an actual opportunity to see a battle of East vs. West during this season, I thought it would still be a good idea to honor the best players of each conference. Over these next two days, I’ll be picking the starters and reserves for both teams. In a similar way to the NBA, we’ll finish things out on Saturday with a fantasy draft where myself and a special guest will be selecting teams based on the 24 G League picked out as All-Star candidates. Those selections will be made in a podcast that will drop on Saturday afternoon.
NOTE: To qualify for an All-Star game, players will have to currently be on a G League team as of this selection while also playing at least half of their team’s games.
