As the relationship between NBA teams and their G League affiliates continue grow and they collectively develop more intimate working relationships, the Indiana Pacers are rewarding its minor league coach in a big way.
After completing his third season as the Fort Wayne Mad Ants’ head coach, Steve Gansey will head to Las Vegas to lead the Pacers through battle. Whereas most G League coaches are given the luxury to contribute to the staff as an assistant, Gansey will impressively serve as the head coach through NBA Summer League, as Indiana joins all of The Association’s teams during the festivities.
“We hope Steve will come in and show us some new ideas. He’ll have an opportunity to run the summer league team with those ideas both the Pacers and Mad Ants want to instill in our players,” Pacers Head Coach Nate McMillan said. “We’re looking for him to be creative with some of the things he has done with the Mad Ants.”
Coach Gansey has led Fort Wayne to a 79-71 record through three seasons, including a Central Division title this past campaign. He’s very deserving of this latest honor as the Pacers not only show appreciation for his efforts, but a continued commitment to his own development as well.
