Sekou Wiggs finished his rookie season with the Westchester Knicks on a high note. He continuously worked on his shot and physical strength in the summer of 2018 in preparation for his second season. He felt his main option heading into his sophomore season was returning to Westchester.

His improvements were on display throughout his second season. While 13.7 minutes in November and 12.4 minutes in December, his playing time and production went up in 2019. Wiggs showed he could be one of the main contributors in the second unit and he attributed that to seizing the opportunity that was presented to him.

“You definitely got to seize the opportunity,” Wiggs said. “Opportunities don’t come too often. When they come you got to be ready for them, so you just got to keep your head down, grind through the season and just know that when they call on your name and call on your number, you got to be ready. That’s what I’ve been able to do for this past season.”

Wiggs put up his best numbers of the season in January in an increased role. He averaged 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals on 46.0 percent from the field, while draining one three per game, in 12 games. The second-year guard closed out the regular season by scoring in double figures in five of his final seven games of the regular season.

He recorded his first double-double (13 points and 13 rebounds) of the season in the season finale against the Erie BayHawks. Wiggs finished out the season by posting another double-double (23 points and 10 rebounds) in the G League Semifinals.

In the final three months of the season, Wiggs showed what he could do when he was presented with more playing time. He showed that he could score the ball and was efficient with his shot in January, while nearly dishing out four assists (3.7) in March. He was a valuable contributor down the stretch and played a crucial role in Westchester’s depth.
