NBA Mock Draft Pick #18 -- Mason Plumlee, Center, Duke

SB Nation's Hawks blog Peachtree Hoops explains the pick:

After selecting a draft and stash with their previous pick, the Hawks can now add someone who can help their rotation immediately. Plumlee is a low upside, yet ready to contribute selection expected to bolster the Hawks defensive rebounding and front court depth in the rotation.

With Zaza Pachulia being a free agent, and the team historically weak in depth at the center position, the Hawks needed to provide Al Horford with some help up front and the ability/flexibility to move Horford over to the power forward position at times during games.

Mason is a solid seven footer with plus athleticism for his size, finishing above the rim and playing very well in transition. His excellent hands and ability to finish off plays above the rim make him a good compliment for Horford.
