NBA Mock Draft Pick #19 -- Jarrett Allen, Center, Texas
SBNation’s Atlanta Hawks blog Peachtree Hoops explains their pick:
Dwight Howard is the only rotation-worthy big man currently under contract for the Atlanta Hawks. Needless to say, it is something of a priority to invest up front and do so with a forward-thinking look. With the addition of Allen, the Hawks have a potential building block on the interior with a defense-first focus and he brings a great deal of raw talent to the table. Beyond that, "Hawks University" has a new pupil for offensive development and Allen's ceiling is immense.
Ridiculous Upside Analysis
This is a solid “medium-risk, high-reward” selection by the crew at Peach Tree Hoops as Allen has....ridiculous upside. Standing at 6’11 with a 7’6 wingspan, Allen has the kind of frame that would make Jay Bilas salivate. In addition to that, he flashes quick footwork on the defensive end which allowed him to average 1.5 blocks per game as a freshman. On the other end of the court, Allen is a force on the offensive glass (averaged 3.0 offensive boards per game) while also showing some touch as an outside shooter. However, Allen is still an incredibly raw prospect that may need to spend time with the Erie Bayhawks, Atlanta’s G-League affiliate.

Comments
This is a good choice at #19 for Atlanta...Jarrett Allen should graduate from the Erie BayHawks before Howard's contract expires.
Not sure he is close to starting for the Hawks but he should be able to enter the rotation in the next 9 to 18 months. The Hawks need inexpensive productive front court players to develop…if they are going to be paying $50M per year to keep Millsap and Howard together for next 24 months.

I may be alone on his, but I’m not convinced his upside is what some think. I’m not convinced that he is a long term starter in the NBA.
