Robin Lopez Out Several Weeks With Knee Injury; Phoenix Suns Are Looking For Replacements

PHOENIX - MAY 23: Robin Lopez #15 of the Phoenix Suns reacts to a play against the Los Angeles Lakers in the second quarter of Game Three of the Western Conference Finals during the 2010 NBA Playoffs at US Airways Center on May 23, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona. UPDATE: Earl Barron is back in the NBA!

Phoenix Suns big man Robin Lopez is out at least one week according to reports due to a "left knee sprain," leading the Phoenix media to believe that my decision to invest big money in him on fantasy this year a terrible one the Suns will more than likely sign a big man to replace him.

Of note, the Suns seem to always be searching for a bit girthier player (but not so girthy that he's Garret Siler, apparently, since they seemingly don't plan on moving him up the depth chart) and probably someone with tangible experience.

Could this change since their front office was overhauled this Summer? Yes. Will it? Probably not yet.

With that in mind, I decided to look for every possible, somewhat-suitable replacement the Suns could have in mind even though they'll probably just go back to the Dwayne Jones well (third time's a charm, buddy!).

In no particular order, after the jump, I have the Robin Lopez Replacement Candidates.  If it isn't one of these guys, I'd be surprised.  Also, I'll probably get into some details once I'm able to actually find out if they're looking at any certain players/skill types (and it'll be eerily reminiscent of this).

Until then, just names in random order!

Anybody I'm missing? Who would you choose?

Tractor Traylor combined with Garret Siler = championship.

Sign me up for Tractor….based solely on combined girth at the center position.

Looks like Earl Barron gets the call. Well, at least he’s big!

Janning was waived

The Phoenix Suns waived Matt Janning in Barron’s signing. Wonder if he will go to the D-League or get pick up by another team.

Hey Scott, Gani Lawal is headed to Iowa.

What kind of opportunities do you see him getting there? I’m not familiar with the team’s roster.

It appears as if my signature carries a certain weight with the Suns front office. I called for Jared Dudley to be extended, and they obeyed. I'm kind of a big deal. So BSotS, what should I demand next?

EXTEND JASON RICHARDSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

During Lawal’s 09-10 season at Georgia Tech, he managed to get more shot attempts than the highly-touted Derrick Favors. I think Gani will make his own opportunities, regardless of the roster. Not sure what this means for Courtney Sims, though—he’ll certainly move from the #1 option to #2 in the front court.

This is assuming that Chris Lofton doesn’t take all of the team’s shot attempts…

Sorry, I actually wrote it up for FanHouse.

Here.

Integrating Lawal into the Energy rotation will be easier than finding minutes for him in the NBA, but only slightly. With a frontcourt that features former Suns’ call-up Courtney Sims along with recent training camp cuts Othyus Jeffers (Utah Jazz) and Connor Atchley (Sacramento Kings), Lawal might not have a starting spot guaranteed. Regardless, Energy head coach Nick Nurse should be able to find solid minutes for the rookie in his rotation as he will know what he’s capable of after spending time with the Suns during the preseason.

I write about basketball players with Ridiculous Upside. I know you'll love it.
