NBA Mock Draft Pick #20 -- John Collins, Power Forward, Wake Forest

SBNation’s Portland Trail Blazers blog Blazers Edge explains this pick::

The Blazers really wanted to pick up a defensive PF/C here but with most of the remaining available big men not ready to contribute, Collins became the choice. He's not known as a good defender, but the athleticism is there so defense could develop. The mechanics on his shot look good and he's a solid free throw shooter, so he may be able to extend out his game. It was unfortunate that the ideal pickup, Jarrett Allen, was off the board just one pick earlier, but the Blazers still end up with a very talented big man.

Ridiculous Upside Analysis

With their second 1st round pick, the crew at Blazers Edge continues their process of drafting the “best player available” by selecting John Collins. Although the team definitely needs a defensive-minded big, Collins is still a decent selection due to his great offensive production. As a sophomore, Collins averaged 19.1 points and 9.8 rebounds (3.8 offensive boards) per game on 62% from the field. While he’ll need to refine his work on the defensive end, Collins should still be a productive player for Portland.
