The Wizards finished with the worst overall defensive rating of any team that went into the season with playoff aspirations, and it’s clear to see why: Washington doesn’t have anyone on the roster who stands out as a defender, outside of (maybe) Trevor Ariza. This year’s roster lacked defensive upside, athleticism, and versatility. Brandon Clarke helps the Wizards address all three issues immediately. Although he may not ever develop into a reliable scorer, he’s provides enough value as a screener, passer, finisher inside that he shouldn’t be a complete liability on that end, even if shot fails to develop.
