The Mavericks have decided to pass on D-League center Dwayne Jones after bringing him in for a job audition Tuesday, according to NBA front-office sources.

Dallas is looking for an extra big man to fill the sudden vacancy created by Erick Dampier's finger injury but decided against signing Jones to a 10-day deal after flying him in from Austin for an afternoon workout.

-From Marc Stein. I'll delve into this more tomorrow.
If you want to know what Mavs fans think, it's because the D-League sucks. Thanx, Mavs fans.

Center

The should look at Rod Benson he is a stud. We got the opportunity to interview him and he is a great guy. If you want to read it or even ping it back and put it on your site, it’s on www.benchplayersports.com.

dallas fan*, singular

i’m sure jones could be the guy who fills-in for ten or so minutes while haywood gets rest, but apparently mavs management doesn’t agree. it’s unfortunate, but it looks as though they’re holding out hope for a center who is bought out or, even worse, they believe najera is adequate until dampier comes back. ugh, if a retread like jake voskuhl gets time over a guy like this, then it’s a shame, and that’s all i’ll say on the matter.

Sexual harassment is no joke, sweet-cans.

Two, but point taken

And if they believe they can get by without Jones, fine by me. It doesn’t really pay to bring in a guy for 10-day’s if you’re not going to necessarily need him. It’s not as if they were going to pick him up and develop him into being the next great Mav’s center ( Random sidenote: who’s the last great Mav’s center? Shawn Bradley? Roy Tarpley?)
If they opt to go with Voskuhl, however, it is a shame.
