Former Western Carolina Guard Brandon Boggs Hoping For NBA D-League Shot

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Western Carolina guard Brandon Boggs has his eyes on a stint in the NBA D-League, a source tells RidiculousUpside.com.

When prospects hit the D-League hardwood for the first time, a goal of theirs often becomes to put their hustle on display and do all of the little things necessary. With so many elite scorers already gracing the NBA stage, big league executives ultimately opt to scour the minor league for diamonds in the rough with special niche skill-sets, perhaps more often than anything else.

While this may be true, it's sometimes nevertheless still best to let one's best skill do the talking as a prospect hopes for that first look.

As fate would have it, for Brandon Boggs, that would appear to be his scoring ability.

A guard out of Western Carolina, Boggs proved to be an efficient scorer during his senior campaign. But perhaps more importantly than that, he managed to pour in the points with plenty of assertiveness. He's not afraid to attack the basket or challenge opposing defenders. Not every prospect on the outside looking in manages to carry themselves with that much confidence.

At 6'5" and 190 pounds, there's no doubt he can score with ease. Being able to embrace even more of a combo-guard role moving forward could prove to be key in whether or not he gets worthwhile looks from D-League teams. He'll need to develop more consistency from downtown as well.

After averaging 12.5 points (on 46% from the field) and 3.8 rebounds in just under 27 minutes of play per contest, the guard is hoping to make the NBA D-League his next stop as he embarks on a professional career, a source tells RidiculousUpside.com.

Working hard to make his presence known this past fall, Boggs has tried out for a multitude of teams, including the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Los Angeles D-Fenders, and Delaware 87ers.
