Source: University of Minnesota Guard Malik Smith Heading For 2014 NBA D-League Draft

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Former University of Minnesota guard Malik Smith (cousin of NBA & D-League alum Will Blalock) is heading for the 2014 NBA D-League Draft, a source tells RidiculousUpside.com.

With November 1st approaching, former University of Minnesota guard Malik Smith is hoping to be selected in the 2014 NBA D-League Draft, a source tells RidiculousUpside.com.

Following multiple collegiate stints, Smith averaged 7.2 points as Minnesota's backup floor general during his senior campaign. Before that, however, he averaged double-figures (14.1 and 15 points, respectively) during his junior and sophomore years with Florida International and Jacksonville College.

He'll now look to start his professional career off with a bang by hitting the D-League hardwood, all the while further honing his skills and strutting his stuff for big league executives.

As a college player, Smith proved to have a knack for getting to the line effectively and driving in traffic, as well as keeping defenses honest from behind the three-point line.

Smith is the cousin of Will Blalock, an NBA and D-League alum who has averaged 8.7 points, 5 assists, and 1.2 steals through 174 minor league contest dating back to 2007.
