NBA Mock Draft: Philadelphia 76ers trade third overall pick in three team deal

New, 8 comments

SB Nation's NBA Network conducted a mock draft with bloggers from each team site making or trading "their" team's pick. We continue with the next pick in the 2015 NBA Mock Draft, with Liberty Ballers trading the third overall pick in a three team deal.

NBA Mock Draft Pick #3 -- D'Angelo Russell, Guard, Ohio State

The Sixers, Suns and Kings have made a trade involving the #3, #6 and #13 picks the SB Nation Mock Draft.

The Suns have acquired the #3 pick from Philly, as well as Darren Collison and Jason Thompson from the Kings. The Kings get Eric Bledsoe. The Sixers trade down and end up with #6 and #13 overall in the draft, as well as Reggie Bullock.

SB Nation's Suns blog, Bright Side of the Sun, explains the trade and subsequent pick:

The Suns, a team full of good-not-great talent, really needed to add a star. The very best free agents don't flock to the desert. So adding that first future All-Star can only be done via trade or the draft. Here, they did both, adding the best prospect brought to the valley since Amare Stoudemire more than a decade ago.

The Kings get to pair Bledsoe with DeMarcus Cousins to make a playoff run in 2015-16, while Philly gets to add two more fine talents to their organization with the #6 and #13 picks in the draft, plus Reggie Bullock (a 2013 #1 pick).

The Phoenix Suns select D'Angelo Russell with the 3rd pick of the 2015 SB Nation Mock Draft.

Russell fits the Suns favorite mold of combo guard who can score at will but prefers to play point guard. He will immediately start next to Brandon Knight to continue bringing the two-point system to the court every night, and maybe even make an All-Star team in the near future.

Backing them up will be Darren Collison, while Jason Thompson brings some length and rebounding to the front court.
