NBA Mock Draft Pick #14 — Kevin Knox, Forward, Kentucky
SB Nation’s Denver Nuggets blog Denver Stiffs explains the pick:
Kevin Knox is a long-term play. The Nuggets are continually selling their fanbase on patience and a plan as Denver intentionally pushes its contention window back, hoping for Golden State and Houston to fall off. At this stage of the draft, Denver can look for immediate contributors who might have lower ceilings or take a big swing on a raw prospect. Tim Connelly’s drafts have continually shown a predilection for the latter, and Knox would be the latest teen to join Denver’s young stockpile. Knox is a good-but-not explosive athlete with great wing size. He has similar upside to former Nuggets Danilo Gallinari, who also could handle the ball and shoot threes over shorter wing players, and was a pretty quick perimeter defender before his injuries as well. Knox’s college performance was stunted by the spacing and personnel issues at Kentucky this year - he would have shown out much better in an offense like Villanova’s. He has a lot of work to do to take advantage of his raw gifts, but Denver needs a long-term combo forward and isn’t trying to win a championship next year. They’re looking for the right fit.
