My Mock Draft - 2nd version

Hey there,

this is the 2nd version of my Mock Draft, the first one can be found here. There are several reasons to release an updated mock draft:

First of all, the Draft Combine is now over. As sad as it is that only one sure lottery guy (Pat Patterson) competed in all the basketball drills, the interviews were all pretty interesting and showed how the players think about themselves, what their strenths and weaknesses are, and what role they want to play. In case you missed any of those interviews, check Draftexpress.com's YouTube channel.

A great source for projecting a player's impact are also the measurements at the combine. They can be found here. And here, here and here you can find some analysis about them.

The results of the shooting drills can also be found online now. Check out NBADraft.net here.

With so much more info about the players, here is my 2nd Mock Draft for the 2010 NBA Draft:

1     Wizards     John Wall - Wall remains the number 1 pick. His measurements a really impressive, so were his interviews, and all signs point towards the Wiz taking him first.

2     76ers          Evan Turner - Had a very impressive interview, but his measurements didn't blow you away. In fact he had a shorter wingspan than John Wall. There are rumours the Sixers are open to trade away the pick, but i don't think they will do in the end.

3     Nets          Derrick Favors - His interview didn't impress anyone, but hey, this kid is still so young. His measurements were very impressive, with his height at 6'10'' with shoes he may even slide to the center position some time, but given the Nets pick him, he will be their future PF. This pick isn't set in stone though. Depending on how the teams-workouts go, Wes Johnson and DeMarcus Cousins may have a chance to impress the Nets more, although i doubt it. Right now Favors provides the best mix of immidiate help and huge upside.

4     Timberwolves     Wesley Johnson - It's still uncertain whether the Wolves will part with Love and/or Jefferson. If they keep em, be sure they pick Wes Johnson. He measured quite well, but impressed even more in his interview. Opinions around the web are that he had the most impressive interview at the combine behind Wall. If they plan on trading Love or Jefferson, they have the option to go after bigger players like Udoh, Cousins or Aminu.

5     Kings          Ekpe Udoh - Surprise pick here. I had him ranked lower before (at # 13), but i changend my mind on him. He had a good interview and measured very well at nearly 6'10'' with shoes. He's older than his class peers, but personality wise i think he will fit into this young Kings team. Maybe i'm wrong and Udoh goes in the late lottery, but right now i stick to him getting picked that high. Other players the Kings may go after are Cousins, Monroe or Aminu.

6     Warriors     DeMarcus Cousins - You can kill me for keeping Cousins at # 6, but i have my reasons. His interview disappointed a lot of observers and question his maturity even more. His measurements were great, besides his 16.3% body fat percentage, which also brings his work ethic and conditioning into question (even "Tiny" Gallon's body fat what lower!). Add to this that he is considered a hothead, and you have some GMs waiving the red flag on him. I'm not saying he's going to fail in the NBA, but i think taking him higher than # 6 is a risk most GMs are not going to take. Don't be surprised if he keeps slipping even more.

7     Pistons     Greg Monroe - Nothing to change at the # 7 pick. Monroe had a so-so interview, so it comes down to the team workouts if Monroe can keep or even raise his stock.

8     Clippers     Al-Farouq Aminu - I had him at # 5 before, but after the measurements i'm not sure if he can play PF in the NBA. I think he sees himself more as a rebounding SF, which may work if he keeps working on his shooting. Had an unenthusiastic interview, that's why i have him falling to # 8.

9     Jazz          Patrick Patterson - No changes here either. Pat Patterson had an outstanding interview and was the only considered lottery pick who did all the basketball drills at the combine. Solid player for the Jazz.

10     Pacers     Xavier Henry - How can some mocks have him ranked in the # 15 - # 19 range? He has ideal size for a SG, shows great shooting skills and is a outstanding athlete. Was one of the fastest players in sprint and agility testing. And at the age of 19, he seems to be very mature for his age. I think he might even climb the draft boards up to maybe # 7.

11     Hornets     Cole Aldrich - He has to be considered one of the losers of the combine. It's not that his interviews were bad, they were good instead. What has hurt his stock are his measurements: he's only 6'9'' without shoes, his vertical jump ability wasn't impressive. He shows good defensive skills though and might fit well in the Hornets rotation.

12     Grizzlies     Eric Bledsoe - As you might have noticed, Zach Randolph is possibly involved in an Indianapolis drug deal. Does that mean the Griz will be going for a PF? Would make sense. Other positions the Griz might want to improve are SF (if Gay leaves) and PG. If they go for a PF, Larry Sanders or Ed Davis come to mind. A good SF? Not so much in this range. They might want to add a player like Babbitt or Hayward, but it seems they will go lower. Bledsoe is another high risk-high reward-pick. He has played out of position in college and it remains to be seen if he can handle PG duties in an NBA team. He's kinda small for a PG, but is very athletic and showed abilities to get to the rim.

13     Raptors     Hassan Whiteside - Some have him ranked way lower, but i think he might even sneak higher into the lottery, probably as high as # 7. He is raw, no question. But don't let this big guy's appearence fool you. He looks skinny, but he is strong, as his 12 bench presses show. He has the biggest wingspan (7'7'') and measured nearly 6'11'' without shoes, plus he's a good shooter. He is a project, but the Raptors are in rebuilding mode, so they will give him time. I see not as much bust-potential as in the Hasheem Thabeet pick. If you want to know more about him, here is an interesting article of him working out together with Daniel Orton and here is an interview with him.

14     Rockets     Larry Sanders - Here are some pure facts of what you get when you pick him: a 6’10.5’’ guy, with a nearly 7’6’’ wingspan, standing reach of 9’4’’ and 4.6 % body fat…okay, plus he weighs only 222 pounds. But you have to admit, the numbers are impressive, right? Add to this his speed, his ability to run the floor and a great timing for shot-blocking. He may be more suited to defend the PF position rather than the C position, but offensively he could play both positions.

15     Bucks          Daniel Orton - When you pick him, you don't know what you will be getting. He's not out of shape, but he could lose some body fat. He may develop into a starting PF some time, but he's definately not a center, as his size is only near 6'9'' without shoes. He is the best talent available though, but not as much a positional need for the Bucks. The Bucks need a SG, so they might also consider taking Bradley. Check out this interview with him.

16     Timberwolves     Ed Davis - It depends on who the Wolves pick at # 4. If they go big, they most cenrtainly won't pick a big man here. If they pick Johnson though and keep Love and Jefferson, Davis is a solid pick and might provide rebounding ability off the bench, as he has perfect size for a PF (6'9'' without shoes). I had him ranked higher before, but the doubts remain.

17     Bulls          Avery Bradley - He's climbing the draft boards everywhere, because his workouts seem to have impressed all observers. I think he might sneak into the lottery if he can keep up and stays focused. The Bulls need a shooter and could find him in Bradley, who has shown great outside shooting.

18     Heat          Donatas Montiejunas - I still haven't seen anything from this guy, so on my list he drops out of the lottery.

19     Celtics     Luke Babbitt - I had him ranked at # 25 before, but he definatley helped his stock in the Draft Combine. Concerns existed towards his athleticism, but the results in vertical (37.5 max vert) and bench press testing (15) show that he's better than everyone thought. He has great height for a SG/SF (nealry 6'9'' with shoes) and was one of the best shooters in the shooting drills. He might even climb as high as # 15, if not higher.

20     Spurs          Gordon Hayward - There are rumours that the Pacers and Clippers are high on Hayward. I don't buy it, at least not with the first round picks these teams own right now. I had him ranked at # 20 before and see no reason to put him elsewhere.

21     Thunder     Paul George - He's a great wing player who is listed as a SF/PF. While he has the height to play PF (nearly 6'9'' with shoes), he is not strong enough to compete against NBA PFs. I see him more as a SF with good rebounding skills and a nice outside shot. Plus, he is a great FT shooter, but does not get to the line very often. He seems to be a nice guy and should fit well in the Thunders squad.

22     Trail Blazers     Solomon Alabi - For obvious reasons i had the Blazers pick a big man before, so no change here.

23     Knicks     Jordan Crawford - I still think the Wolves won't keep their 3rd first rounder. Ok, so now i'm predicting the Knicks will buy this one. Who would they pick? I think they will go with the best offensive player on the board, and that is...Jordan Crawford! He is a great shooter and above average athlete. He plays no defense, but that should be no problem in D'Antoni's system. Should the Knicks get LeBron too, Crawford better be prepared for the first training.

24     Hawks          James Anderson - Most have him ranked higher, but i'm not sure he can impress in workouts. He also strained his hamstring in a workout in Houston, which may hurt his stock.

25     Grizzlies     Damion James - Same goes for James. He is just outside the lottery in most mocks, but, as stated on Paul George, he is too small to play PF in the NBA. He is more athletic than George, but is older than his peers.

26     Thunder     Kevin Seraphin - For a C, he's too small. But he is a great athlete and could develop a few more seasons in Europe before entering the NBA.

27     Nets          Willie Warren - I expect Warren to continue impressing GMs, and if he can show he can handle the PG position, he may go up the board fast. He's already shown in the shooting drills that he is a deadly sooter (77 % overall), which is quite surprising, because he wasn't considered a shooter in college.

28     Grizzlies     Stanley Robinson - I had him ranked here before, so nothing to change.

29     Magic          Greivis Vasquez - He was flying under the radar so far, and might go in the second round. But for the Magic it makes sense to add a talented and tall PG, since J-Will is likely gone and they need an upgrade at his position. Vasquez is a player that should provide good floor leading skills off the bench, although questions remain towards his upside and ability to take his game to the next level.

30     Wizards     Miroslav Raduljica - Who? He's a european 7-footer, strong, great rebounder and good FT-shooter. Makes sense to let him develop in Europe and see if he can come over the next few years.

I think we all have noticed that this is a typical big men draft. Check out this very interesting article on fanhouse about the offensive impact of this year's big men.

Tweak it a little bit

Pretty good mock. However, I see that you are sleeping on Luke Babbitt. FYI, the Clippers are not saying anything because Luke is who they want. No way they go with Aldrich, they got DeAndre Jordan behind Kaman. The Clips will draft Babbitt, then best available PF or PG in the second. As far as the Warriors they should snatch Aminu because of his versatility especially defensively, but it depends on who the coach is. If Nelson stays, he likes Monroe waaay better than Cousins. Monroe allows Nelson to use a high post center with good passing skills. He tried to it with Ultra unskilled Biedrins with no success, too bad they owe him 45 mil over the next 5 years (ouch). As far as Monroe being soft, Nellie thinks that label is overblown. Nellie thinks Monroe will rebound at least as well as Biedrins, and hit waaay more ft’s. Also, I just saw Lance Stephenson dunk on Cousins at the MacDonalds All America prctice on Youtube. No way he would’ve done that against Aminu
