Saturday's NBA D-League Draft stands to be the dawn of a new day for aspiring professional athletes hoping to get noticed and make a name for themselves once and for all.
That said, in addition to some of the otherwise unknown up and comers, a handful of familiar faces (be it from the NBA or even the D-League itself previously) are certain to turn up once again as well.
A source tells RidiculousUpside.com that one of those very returning players will be Richmond alum Kevin Anderson, the point guard who appeared in ten games for the Canton Charge during the 2012-13 season. The (now) 25 year old averaged 8.1 points, 3.3 assists, and 1 steal per contest.
He'll be available for selection in the 2014 NBA D-League Draft.
Anderson's minor league stint came after training camp with the affiliated Cleveland Cavaliers that fall. Prior to that, Anderson participated in Orlando Summer League as well.
Following a four-year collegiate career during which he averaged 15.6 points (on 44% from the field), 2.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per contest, it's safe to say the promising point guard was on the cusp of breaking into The Association. He came closer than most do.
But as he still managed to keep his NBA dream in prospective, Anderson ventured overseas, where he continued to progress and make strides during his stops in Italy, Switzerland Greece, and Turkey. While his ability to score has been evident from the start, the young gun has continued to work towards being recognized as a pass-first floor general.
Coming off one of his more impressive international stints playing in Greece last season (Anderson averaged 14.3 points on 47% from the field and 38% from deep, in addition to 2.4 assists), he now hopes to have the chance to prove his value while showing his most recent improvements.
Without much experience or proven worth, many athletes opt to hit the D-League hardwood for a season or two in order to bolster their respective resumes and cash in on a more lucrative deal overseas. Perhaps keeping the bigger picture in mind throughout, Anderson made the conscious decision to venture across the world beforehand. Such experience is sure to have prepared him a bit more for a substantial shot at accomplishing the ultimate goal.
