NBA Mock Draft Pick #5 — Wendell Carter Jr., Forward, Duke
SBNation’s Dallas Mavericks blog Mavs Moneyball explains the pick:
Dallas tried to trade out of their pick - both up and down - but in the end settled on the player they like best at 5. Wendell Carter Jr. doesn’t have Mo Bamba’s freakish length, but he does just about everything well, whether it’s traditional big man things like rebound and block shots, or more modern big stuff like space the floor and pass from free-throw line and up. Getting someone so well-rounded who’s also just 19 helps build the Mavericks’ core, giving them the best mix of high-floor and upside.
