D-League Showcase Live Blog: Day 1 Is Underway

The 2012 NBA D-League Showcase is underway in Reno, Nev., with the Idaho Stampede and Erie BayHawks playing in the first game of the day. Your's truly is here and, since it's going to be tough to stay focused as I watch 16 games over the next four days, I figured it might be a good idea to leave some thoughts here.

Most of my stuff will be hosted over at NBC Sports' Pro Basketball Talk over the next few days, but this'll serve as the B Side of sorts -- or at least that's the plan. For my official writings, be sure to check out my D-League Showcase primeras well as my preview of Day 1's action over at PBT (and thank them for letting me write over there this week while you're at it).

Anyway, stay tuned to NBA TV for the first couple of games and D-League Futurecast so you can watch for me and everything else happening at the beautiful Reno Events Center. Any thoughts I have on today's action will be posted below.

Curtis Stinson Re-Joins The D-League

The first bit of breaking news to happen this week has happened! Former D-League MVP Curtis Stinson is expected to re-join the Iowa Energy for their pair of games here in lovely Reno.

The 28-year-old point guard played four games this season with Krka in the Adriatic League, but was released due to injury and has been inactive ever since. He needs just 13 games to become the all-time leader in D-League games played!

Erie has a pretty darn talented roster. They would be tough to coach though, with so many guys coming and going. Armon Johnson and Julyan Stone (good call on this kid Scott, I liked what I saw) both looked pretty good. Babbit showed me some flashes but also showed some of the reasons he hasn’t been able to find the court in the NBA. Same with Jordan Hamilton.

Jeff Foote looked slow and clumsy to me today.

Will Foster is tall.

Costner has a nice stroke.

Mike James still has something left in the tank.

I had more observations when I was watching, but that was 10 hours ago and I forgot them.

Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
