As upwards towards 200 basketball hopefuls prepare for the NBA D-League's annual national tryout, set to take place on June 14th in New York City, there's no denying that this showcase is indeed a respective platform for potential coaches, as well as those already present up & coming mentors in the minor league.
With that in mind, here's a look at some of the more likely coaches the league is planning to include this year. They'll all be led by Camp Director Bob MacKinnon.
1) Tyler Gatlin --- currently an assistant with the Texas Legends, Gatlin has experience in the D-League, ABA, and at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
2) Raman Sposato --- Recently crowned a D-League champion with the Santa Cruz Warriors, Sposato has vast experience as a coach and video coordinator on the NBA level. He was highlighted by RidiculousUpside.com earlier this season as a worthwhile D-League head coaching candidate.
3) Fred House --- currently an assistant coach with the Texas Legends, House is a former D-League player with international experience as well. He was the 2002 D-League Rookie of the Year.
4) Mikki Moore ---- Arguably one of the most well known coaches of the bunch, this NBA and D-League alum averaged 5.8 points and 3.9 rebounds through parts of thirteen seasons in The Association.
5) Matt Lilly --- This former Video Coordinator and Director of Basketball Operations & Analytics for the Erie BayHawks spent last season as an analyst for Krossover while coaching high school basketball.
6) Dylan Murphy --- Crowned a D-League champion with the Mad Ants in 2014, the SB Nation alum returns to coach the national tryout for a second straight season.
7) Matt Woodley --- he currently serves as an assistant coach for the Iowa Energy and is said to have great rapport with his players.
8) Stanley Roberts --- A former NBA pro, Roberts earned All-Rookie Second Team honors in 1992 and was a college teammate of Shaquille O'Neal at LSU.
9) Jeff Javorek --- Like Murphy, Javorek returns to the national tryout for the second straight season. He most recently served as Assistant Coach, Director of Basketball Operations, and Video Coordinator for Gene Cross' BayHawks staff. (Javorek was profiled by us last summer following the event.)
10) Kevin Keathley ---- has been coaching since 1998. His journey has already seen him serve as assistant coach for the Bakersfield Jam and head coach for the Ottawa SkyHawks of the NBLC, among others.
11) Tony Campbell --- he's an eleven year veteran who won an NBA championship in 1988. He's currently athletic director at Bay Ridge Prep in Brooklyn.
12) Larry Lessett ---- he's a Division I basketball coach who also spent three years as a global scout for Magic Johnson International Basketball.
13) Lenny Pitt ---- well known around the Big Apple basketball community, this mainstay is a former longtime LIU Brooklyn assistant coach.
14) Tremaine Fowlkes --- This longtime NBA and D-League veteran won a championship with the Detroit Pistons in 2004.
15) James Clark ---- CEO of Full Court Solutions LLC, He's also an assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Georgetown. With over ten years of coaching, he's regarded as one of the top player development coaches on the east coast.
16) Andrea Stinson --- a former WNBA all-star, she now coaches women's high school basketball.
17) Gerald Brown --- this basketball veteran is a former Phoenix Sun and Harlem Globetrotter.
18) Charlie Copp --- this former UPenn basketball player has most recently taken up coaching high school basketball.
19) Cori Chambers --- this former WNBA and overseas player is now an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at University of Richmond.
20) Willie (Skyy) Foreman --- a former Harlem Globetrotter.
21) Terry Thimlar --- previously served in a dual role for the now defunct Florida Flame as the team's general manager and assistant coach to head coach Dennis Johnson.
22) Brendan Owens --- he is a former video coordinator and basketball operations assistant for the formerly Brooklyn Nets affiliated Springfield Armor squad.
23) Patrick Eddie ---- this former Knick now coaches high school varsity basketball.
24) Tanner Massey ---- he spent last season with the Orlando Magic affiliated Erie BayHawks as an assistant coach / intern.
