Erie, Bakersfield Waive More Players*
* I'm just going to keep updating this post as I hear more rather than create a new one for each team. Keep checking back to see what new waiver moves have gone down.
D-League teams have to get their rosters down to 10 players before the regular season starts, which means we'll see a few more cuts over the next few days. Happy Thanksgiving, etc. Anyway, I haven't seen independent news articles on these yet (I'll link them when I do), but the Erie BayHawks have cut Rod Wilmont and Oliver Lafayette, and the Bakersfield Jam have cut Chris Ayer, Ramon Dyer and waived Benson Collier and Amara Sy due to injury.
Lafayette being waived is a little bit of a surprise since he was a returning player, although I didn't think he was particularly good last year. Wilmont played with Fort Wayne a few years ago, but was a little miffed when they didn't draft him this year and looked forward to playing against them in the preseason (and he played pretty well, in fact). I believe the quote in that article is "You don't hold grudges, but you know what they say about karma." Whoops. According to the Bakersfield press release, Sy (who was the team's first round pick) has a hairline fracture in his left ulna and should be back in 14 days or so.
Updated 11/25 6:25 pm - Dakota has waived Carlos English and Doug Thomas. English averaged about seven minutes per game off the bench for the Wizards last season, and while he wasn't a very good shooter he was quick and put up some decent assist numbers. Thomas was Dakota's second-round pick and has been a pretty good rebounder and shot-blocker.
Updated 11/25 6:35 pm - Fort Wayne has waived AJ Ratliff and CJ Anderson. I'll let Jeff Potter explain why.
Updated 11/25 10:25pm - Idaho has waived Delonte Holland and Ray Schafer and Sioux Falls has waived Draelon Burns. Holland has clashed with his coaches in the past but otherwise is a pretty good three-point shooter.
Updated 11/27 10:45 am - Rio Grande Valley has waived Henry Dugat and Haminn Quaintance (whom they traded Marcus Hubbard for)
Springfield Armor waived Brayden Billbe and DeSean White
Reno Bighorns waived James Peters and Jermaine Johhnson
Maine Red Claws waived Tyrelle Blair and Matt Clement
Austin Toros waived Quemont Greer and Jawan Bailey
Los Angeles D-Fenders waived Alan Wiggins

BayHawks cuts
I just got the press release a little over an hour ago, so the newspaper article probably won’t show up until tomorrow. But for those who have better things to do tomorrow (you know, that of the food/family/football variety), I put together my thoughts on the (what I thought were surprising) final two roster cuts. Enjoy.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow D-League fans out there!
