Charles Barkley Is Not A Big Disciple Of The D-League
"I don't know what these kids are thinking,'' Barkley said. "If you're not going to go in the lottery, or in the first round, you should not go in the NBA draft. You put yourself in basketball limbo. You won't have anywhere to play. I'm not a big disciple of the D-League (the NBDL)."
"And you don't have your education so you're really putting yourself in a situation where you're going to fail for life. You don't have a degree. You're probably going to become a basketball nomad.
"One of the reasons I wish they'd stay in school, it's going to have a huge effect on the black kids. That's not to be racial, but moreso the black kids are leaving school early, and they're not ready. ...
He also spouted off about the immaturity of DeMarcus Cousins, said Eric Bledsoe isn't ready and decided Elijah Millsap should stay in school.

I don't think Cousins is ready either
But I cannot fault the man for taking a guaranteed payday.

Charles Barkley has his faults, but I like that he speaks his mind. He’s totally right in this case. If rookie’s weren’t given so much damn money in the first place, I bet more kids would stay in school and hone their skills. It’s a shame that the NBA throws money around and then expects kids to go to college for at least a year. A damn shame.
The NBA is becoming a highlight factory, but they are losing out on the skill sets that make the game truly fun to watch from beginning to end. Now I sit around bored watching one on one basketball for the most part till every once in a while something exciting happens.
Basketball used to be my number 1 sport. It’s now third behind baseball and football. The product just isn’t that good. I bet if they got rid of 2 or 3 teams and there were more skilled players per team, they could probably have a better product. But greed will stop them from doing that.

I always thought Barkley was a little off, but I agree with him about the education thing. As a dancer, I understand that your career as a professional athlete is short but I think you need a back-up plan (a college degree). I am not so sure about his D-League comments. I think he is wrong on that one.
