My Mock Draft - 3rd and final version
Here's my 3rd and final mock draft for the 2010 draft. Check out my last two here and here.
I'm going short on this one and will only comment on some major changes i made in the rankings:
***UPDATE***: There are two interesting things that came to surface today. The first, it is reported that NJ is leaning towards drafting Wes Johnson instead of Derrick Favors. That would mean the Wolves were able to pick Favors, which they will do if they have the opportunity. The second, the Wolves and Grizzlies are in talks aboutv swapping picks, giving the 16th pick to the Grizzlies for the 25th and 28th pick. According to Jonathan Givony at Draftexpress, this is not a done deal yet, so it remains to be seen if they actually reach a deal.
1 Wizards John Wall
2 76ers Evan Turner
3 Nets Derrick Favors
4 Timberwolves Wesley Johnson
5 Kings Greg Monroe - I had Udoh here the last time, but his stock isn't that high. All signs point towards the Kings going for a Center here despite the latest addistion of Dalembert (his contract is coming off the books after the next season anyways). So there is a great chance the Kings go after Monroe, or maybe Cousins.
6 Pistons DeMarcus Cousins - I've mixed up the draft order here because i think the Warriors and Pistons are going to switch picks. The Pistons desperately need a Center, and they might not get one of the two quality guys (Monroe and Cousins) at #7, so they will try to get the 6th pick.
7 Warriors Al-Farouq Aminu - Aminu runs the floor well and is a versatile player who can play both forward positions.
8 Clippers Paul George - I had him ranked much lower before, but he's received a green room invitation and a lot of teams are impressed by him. He is the best SF (no, i don't think he's a PF) left and fills a need for the Clippers (just in case they don't get LeBron... ... ...).
9 Jazz Patrick Patterson
10 Pacers Xavier Henry
11 Hornets Luke Babbitt - He's also received a green room invitation. The Hornets might go after Aldrich if the plan on trading away Okafor, but as it stands now, Babbitt fills a need becauso Peja's health is in question.
12 Grizzlies Ekpe Udoh - It looks like the Grizzlies might need a new PF sooner than later. Udoh is the best left on the board, so it makes sense for them to take him.
13 Raptors Cole Aldrich - Looks like he might even slip out of the lottery. The Raptors need a legitimate Center (no, Bargnani is not a real Center), so it comes down between Aldrich and Whiteside, but they should go safe and pick the more NBA-ready Aldrich.
14 Rockets Hassan Whiteside - He needs time to grow and should be able to learn from Yao.
15 Bucks Larry Sanders - He's an athletic big man who might also be able to play some C offensively.
16 Timberwolves Ed Davis
17 Bulls Avery Bradley
18 Heat Eric Bledsoe - The Heat don't seem to trust Chalmers to fill the starting PG-role. Is Bledsoe their man? Probably not, but he has enough upside and maybe the Heat see a future starter in him.
19 Celtics Daniel Orton - He's slipping too. But the Celts definately need a big guy, especially if Sheed retires.
20 Spurs Gordon Hayward
21 Thunder Damion James
22 Trail Blazers Solomon Alabi
23 Timberwolves James Anderson
24 Hawks Willie Warren
25 Grizzlies Greivis Vasquez
26 Thunder Kevin Seraphin
27 Nets Armon Johnson
28 Grizzlies Stanley Robinson
29 Magic Dominique Jones
30 Wizards Jordan Crawford

I don't think the Kings pass on Cousins if he's there at 5
at least I hope not. If the Kings take DMC do you think that the dubs and Pistons trade draft spots? It makes sense for the dubs but maybe not so much for Detroit.

it depends on what direction they will go
I think the risk of Cousins being the next Eddy Curry will keep the Kings away from drafting him. Monroe on the other hand is a player with a unique playing style. He is a great passer and has a high basketball IQ. Sure, he’s not the athlete Cousins is, but he is the safer pick.

If Vasquez goes at 25, I expect Orlando to take Pondexter
That said, Jameer Nelson has commented that he likes DJ’s game, so who knows?
Honor is no substitute for victory.

Jazz would pick Ed Davis
From everything I have seen the Jazz are going to go with Ed Davis at #9. They do like Udoh and Babbitt also, but I think Patterson is way down on the list.

just read this tweet by Jonathan Givony (Draftexpress):
we’ll see, i think # 9 is a bit high for Hayward, but Babbitt taken by the Jazz seems possible in my opinion.

I hate to sound racist
But that seems like a Jazz pick.

Hayward would surely be a disappointingly anti-climatic addition for Spurs Nation.
Cousins will be gone before 6, not to mention GS would take him over Aminu. You must be a Pistons fan. Even the next Eddy Curry would be a solid pick for Detroit.
Davis will be gone before 16, which is now a Grizzlies pick, they would jump at Davis, but won’t have the opportunity.

Good stuff Dubbel
I’d be interested to see a fanpost before Thursday on your boy Ohlbrecht.

thank you very much
i have to admit, i’m not really that much into German basketball and have hardly seen Ohlbrecht play. what i just found are his stats from the 09/10 season, here. his FG% is pretty high and he has 3PT-range, but i’m not so sure about his rebounding skills. btw, i thought i read about Ohlbrecht withdrawing from the draft, but i haven’t found anything, so i could be wrong.
anyways, right now Tibor Pleiss looks like the one German player likely getting picked in the draft.
Draftexpress has him at # 26 right now, here is his profile.

If the Warriors can get Cousins at 6
they absolutely will not trade that pick. They need Cousins and they desperately want him.
by Evanz on Jun 23, 2025 7:11 AM EDT reply actions
how do you know they desperately want him?
i’m 90 % sure i read that Don Nelson isn’t impressed at all by Cousins (haven’t found the article…i think i have over-read all these per-draft articles). let’s wait and see what happens on draft day and the next days after. i can imagine the Warriors staying at #6, picking Cousins and dealing him afterwards for another pick in the 7 - 10 range + a future first round pick and/or ending contract and/or role player.

Chad Ford and others have reported many times that Cousins is the guy the W's covet

here's the newest rumour:
http://twitter.com/DraftExpress/status/16889686709
“Hearing more and more that Ekpe Udoh is going 6th to GS. No final decision there but they seem to be leaning that way. Screws everything up.”
