Team USA Roster For 2011 Pan-Am Games Finalized

Team USA finalized its roster for the 2011 Pan-Am Games at the end of the month. As those following along should remember, the team is made up entirely of players signed to play in the NBA Development League this season and will be led by Nate Tibbetts, head coach of the Tulsa 66ers.

The final roster seems to have a focus on defense and shooting as the 12 men included to represent Team USA includes guards Justin Dentmon, Blake Ahearn, Donald Sloan and Jerome Dyson; wings Renaldo Major, Moses Ehambe and Curtis Sumpter; forwards Leo Lyons, Marcus Lewis and Lance Thomas; and bigs Brian Butch and Greg Stiemsma.

"Obviously this is a tough selection just because guys have competed at such a high level. They're doing what we've asked, they're all good guys, but we can only take 12. At the same time you've got to get 12 so we can relax, catch our breath, guys don't have to press now, this is our team and we can really focus on competing in the Pan Ams," Tibbetts said in a press release.

"I think what excites me about this team is our commitment to defense, our guys have really bought into that. And then we've got some guards that can really push it and we've got some bigs that are really, really playing hard and are game changers just with their effort."

Late Wednesday night, the team announced that D-League free agent Chris Daniels, Ron Howard of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and the Bakersfield Jam's Luke Zeller were the team's final three cuts.

There was a volleyball match from the games on ESPN 2 in prime-time last week so I’m pretty hopeful … nothing announced yet though.

I would imagine that ESPN finds a way to get them on television but if not they will definitely have tons of basketball content live and archived on ESPN 3 AKA “The Tres”.

I'm fine with that, too

But it would be nice to get some of these guys on the big ol’ television. I just sent a note to USA Basketball so I should have an update by tomorrow morning.

Awesome, interested to hear what they say. Speaking of streaming games online, was there ever an announcement from the league that the Futurecast wasn’t going to be available this year or have they quietly done away with it under the assumption that more people will go to D League games for their basketball fix this year based on the lockout?

I'd be shocked

If they didn’t have Futurecast this year. They just had to remove the archives because they featured a few NBA players.

I was aware of the legal limitations regarding having NBA players in the archive but I find it strange that the Futurecast page just redirects to the league homepage. You would think they would have some kind of placeholder at the url where the games are found. I also remember completing an NBA Fan Panel survey where they were asking a lot of questions about Futurecast so I hope it didn’t go by the wayside based on lack of interest or something. Maybe you’re right and they just pulled it to re-boot it based on the NBA situation and the feedback from the survey.

I'll getcha an answer

But that was the original reasoning I got.

It seems all the NBA-affiliated sites condensed themselves as much as possible.

It’s just easier for them. Get rid of everything so A) no players are featured and B) minimal maintenance is required. A link back to the original site is easier than making a place-holder.

That's Awesome

Thanks for confirming - I was a little worried that they were cutting it off and that would have been a shame because it’s a great little product to help grow interest int he league. I’m looking forward to watching it again.
