D-League Playoff Scenarios
From the Fan Shots by playoff guru hkf - Scott
As I wrote earlier Bakersfield in a traditional playoff alignment would be the 8th seed (having lost to the tiebreaker to Erie). Erie also is locked into having the 7th best record regardless, because Dakota won the season series.
Utah/Idaho is pretty interesting because the winner obviously clinches the 2nd best record in the league. Utah being at home has no excuses for not getting this done. Even though Idaho has pretty much owned them, you couldn’t be happier than to have a division title on the line in the regular season finale at home. The loser of that game is also going to be on the road against Austin (even if they lose to RGV tomorrow) as well in the first round, so this is pretty much a huge game. This game is the difference between having two home games in the first two rounds of the playoffs and starting on the road against what might be the 2nd best team in the league in Austin.
If I had to take a guess as to how the playoffs will look:
(1) Colorado vs. (8) Bakersfield
(4) Austin vs. (5) Utah/Idaho game loser
(3) Iowa vs. (6) Dakota
(2) Utah/Idaho winner vs. (7) Erie
Note: I do not expect the choosing of teams to matter much this year. Bakersfield is slumping and locked into being the worst team in the field. I have a hard time seeing Colorado pick a better team over them. Also Dakota is pretty hot right now with a strong group that could beat anyone, but I don't see Iowa picking the Utah/Idaho loser over them. Those teams have proven to be better than Dakota in the regular season.

I'm getting the feeling
That Austin might be the most likely 1-4 seed to go down in the first round. Hairston and Jones would have to play out of their minds (like tonight, but unlikely to continue).
I also agree that Dakota is a dangerous team despite it’s record. Ahearn/Hendrix combo could take them a long way.

Agreed
The Toros have enough guys who can shoot them out of a game, and not a strong enough point guard to control the tempo.
Now writing for Ridiculous Upside, where we knew who Mike Taylor was before you did.

Maybe Magic Quin Snyder
can work some more COY magic for the playoffs. Either that or the Spurs will want George Hill to get some D-League experience before the playoffs.

I'd go with Iowa
They don’t have a big. I’m expecting upset if they play anyone but Bakersfield.

Actually you're right
Now that I’m paying attention, hkf has them stacked up against Kota in the first round. If that’s the case, then there’s no way that Hendrix doesn’t go for 30-20 or something like that (the quietest 30-20 ever).

His 25-8
wasn’t that quiet tonight. I like when he shows heart. Also, I gave David Bell a ride to the arena. Still likes my car.

5 pm baby
I’ve told you before, I’m a local celebrity. Among our discussion topics:
Will you get a Summer League invite? I live in Vegas, so I’ll be there. Hope I’m playing.
Did you get your nap in? Yep. Left Iowa at 5 this morning.
You smell nice. No response on that one. I kinda said it under my breath.

Bringin the last name into it?
I was thinking about changing my name. There was a comment on a Knicks blog making fun of Ridiculous Scott from Ridiculous Upside breaking news… It kind of hurt. I’d like to be as professional as Timothy L. Varner as well..

Their top four are as good as any team in the D. Major, Ahearn, Hendrix and Baker.

You guys are silly...
Only one game really matters tonight. I am stoked for Sunday night now, to see what the matchups are. Dan Reed if you are reading this, you better make sure that Colorado team does not fold. They are too good to fold.

That's for sure?
If so what a shame. They were doing everything right and yet still folded. Kroenke, Stern and company should be ashamed.

But for sure. Denver’s in the process of looking for a new affiliate.. Thinking they’ll go hybrid.
