RU's Resident Baller/Blogger, Kasib Powell, checks in with some big updates! For previous Kasib blogs, check here and here. Also, I'd like to say congrats to Kasib - hopefully this is the start of something great in Orlando!
As I'm packing my stuff getting ready to go to Orlando tomorrow for summer league, I figured this would be a perfect time to stop what I was doing and write a blog.
The reason why I thought it would be a good time to write is because my mind is racing. I'm thinking about things from my flight time to splitting screens on pick and rolls. I'm thinking about things I can control like my game and being on time, but I'm also thinking about things that I can not control, like free agents and coaching changes. I wish I wouldn't spend time thinking about the things I can't control, but compared to me 4 years ago, its like night and day!
Over the last 4 years I have been listening to advice that Kevin Garnett gave me when I played with him in Minnesota. One day, coming back from a game where I didn't play much, we had a conversation: He asked me if I ever visualized the game before it happened? I didn't know what he meant. I mean from time to time I might have a dream that I was in the Finals with the Bulls. Game 7 on the road, and Michael Jordan got stuck on a move and found me in the corner with three people running at me. I take the shot with 2 seconds and every time it goes in, Swish!
After he broke it down to me and gave me examples of how he does it I totally knew what he meant. For example, if I have a game against a shot blocker, the night before the game I visualize myself making moves that I have worked on that would and should work. If I went into the game without having a game plan I make it more difficult during the game. Another example is it could be a big playoff game. The night before or many times before the game I'm thinking about where my shots are most likely going to come from. I'm thinking about the way my defender likes to play. It's all about a game plan.
All that being said I have visualized playing extremely well in Orlando Summer League. I have seen what will happen in Orlando but you will have to check the Internet to see the results. (Scott's note: By internet, he means RidiculousUpside.com. Hourly.)
