Team Draft Review: Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks first selection in last weeks draft was Jordan Crawford out of Xavier University. This was a fairly solid pick from where they were picking. Crawford was selected because of Joe Johnson's impending free agency but Crawford is not who the Hawks needed. He is a very good scorer but seems to be a chucker and don't they already have that woth Jamal Crawford off of the bench. Although you can never have too many players that truly know how to score.

With their second round pick (53rd overall) the Hawks selected Pape Sy out of France. This selection puzzles me because of the talent still left on the board. This pick could have been Stanley Robinson, Derrick Caracter, or Sherron Collins. Pape Sy is sort of aan athletic tweener, is an okay scorer, and barley played in the French league, but in thew Hawks defense you look at the last five 53rd picks: Nando De Colo, Tradija Dragicevic, Demetrius Nichols, Yotam Halperin, and Orien Greene and see that none of them are in the NBA right now it makes the Hawks pick seem not that bad.

Overall Grade for the Hawks: B

This grade could obviously change if Jordan Crawford turns out to be a productive starter or if we actually see Pape Sy in a Hawks jersey.

just a little correction:

the Hawks didn’t pick Crawford, they got him in trade from the Nets. anyways, i agree with you again, Crawford could be a good alternative if the lose on JJ and start to actually rebuild. i think Jamal Crawford will start at the 2 then, with Jordan Crawford coming off the bench.

with the 53rd pick i’m a bit disappointed by the Hawks. as you said, there was way better talent on the board (i include Mikhail Torrance, who went undrafted) with absolutely no risk at all - i don’t get it.

i would give them a C+ though.
