Good morning! Happy Randy Livingston Day! Yep. Randy Livingston has a day all to himself in Idaho. April 10th. I was hoping there'd be a Randy Livingston montage out there on Youtube since he played in 203 NBA games (wearing the numbers 1,2,3,7,9 and 14 for nine different teams), but there isn't. Instead settle for this, where he made the 10th Italy-est play of the 96-97 season.
If you're wondering why an assistant coach with the Idaho Stampede gets a day to himself, here's the reason, from the press release:
The popular guard is the Stampede leader in season high assists (488 in 05-06 season), game high assists (23), all-time assist leader (1517), all-time games played (163), and all-time total points (2428). Livingston was a member of the 2003-04 CBA All-League Second Team and the 2006-07 All D-League First Team. He was also named the NBA Development League's Most Valuable Player for the 2006-07 season. Livingston received 19 NBA call-ups throughout his career.
He retired after winning a championship with Idaho last season, a season in which he averaged 16.5 points and 10.5 assists at the age of 33.
On Randy Livingston Day, which should be celebrated by the NBA as he would have tore it up had he not suffered a horrendous knee injury at LSU, there will be a lot of exciting things going on in Boise! Livingston's retired jersey banner will hang near the Idaho Stampede's 2008 Championship banner in Qwest Arena. In addition to the ceremony, the first 500 fans through the doors will receive a special Randy Livingston Jersey Koozie compliments of Budweiser.
I can't wait. I expect Rumble to have a full report on all of the happenings. Also, Idaho staff, Rumble brought up a good idea in the comments yesterday that I'd like to share: "Speaking of impeccable, you would think that the Stamps could have got the beer distributor to throw in 500 Joel Abelson Wine Cooler Coozies for fans 501-to-1000. That way I could get in line later, like 4:30 or so."
If you want to celebrate Randy Livingston Day the right way next year, I suggest you buy these Randy Livingston game worn Chicago Stags warm-up pants.
