Chad Ford's Mock Draft, Version 1.0 (ESPN Insider)
The only major surprise was Kenneth Faried, Morehead State power forward, to the Portland Trail Blazers at 22 overall.

Ah, Kenneth Faried may pan out to be the next ... dare I say it ... Dennis Rodman. Hell, a sane Rodman at that.
Under my RealGM pseudonym atk1984 — which is essentially the same as my one here at SBNation, AK1984, albeit with lowercase letters and my middle initial included in it — I made the following comments about Faried.
“Kenneth Faried will make an impact in the NBA, so no worries here. Faried will fare better than Renaldo Balkman, DeMarre Carroll, and any others who are lazily compared to him mainly due to a certain follicle-related reason. The difference is because of Faried’s eye-popping, jaw-dropping rebounding numbers this past season (i.e., 16.2% ORB% & 36.7% DRB%), which should translate smoothly from college to the pros.
Oh, and although this may seem altogether crazy to some of y’all, Faried is the closest player to Dennis Rodman since, well, “The Worm” himself. That’s from strictly an on-court perspective, of course. Yet, if Faried can come even close to duplicating Bad Boys era Rodman, then he’ll be an absolute steal in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft."

With that said, though, I don’t expect that the Portland Trail Blazers will draft Faried, since its frontline is pretty much set. Personally, though, i’d prefer having Faried taking up a roster spot than an undersized third-string center like Jeff Pendergraph or a slender pick-and-pop 4 like Dante Cunningham, but that won’t happen in all likelihood.
Now, I think you’re 100% right about how it’d be surprising if Faried went in the first round — which you seem to infer here — but some team will definitely pick him up somewhere in the second round. My hope is that Faried goes to the Milwaukee Bucks with the 37th pick, as he could be the 4th forward in a four-man rotation featuring Luc Richard a Mbah Moute, Carlos Delfino, and Ersan Ilyasova. Additionally, Faried is the kind of hard-working, rugged player — particularly on defense — who’s fully appreciated by a hardass head coach like Scott Skiles.

I see a few downsides to Faried, but he could be the next Rodman, like you suggest. The problems I see with him:
1. Lack of size at the 4/5. He’s 6’8", around 220. Rashard Lewis (my archetype for the skinny 4) is 6’10", 230. Faried’s frame also isn’t large enough for him to add much bulk. I don’t think he could go much past 225 without encountering issues. This is somewhat important, since he has gotten abused in the post by larger college players on occasion.
2. Not much range. He’s primarily a post player, which will make it difficult (though not impossible) to play at the 3 like young Rodman did.
3. General questions about defensive mobility. At Morehead, he was generally playing the 5 in a 3-2 zone. What’s his perimeter mobility like, and could he play a role where perimeter defense was important, either against 3s or stretch 4s? This is something teams should test at workouts with Faried.
4. Free throw shooting. Faried shot 59.5% this year. There are three NBA players with a worse percentage this year - Okafor, Perkins, and Howard.
Looking back at your quote, I’d put Rodman as Faried’s potential peak, but I’m not sure he’ll be quite that good. Rodman was highly mobile in his youth, and unless Faried shows that same sort of mobility, I’m not sure he’ll be quite as solid a defender, though he’ll still be a good to great rebounder.
Honor is no substitute for victory.

I thought about it for a few more minutes, and I can almost see Faried currently as a slightly taller, lighter Brandon Bass. He won’t be quite as much of a post defender, but he’s a much better rebounder (Bass’ rebounding is overrated). I think Faried is also more mentally flexible, which will help him in the long run, so his upside should be higher than Bass.
