NBA Mock Draft Pick #10 -- Deyonta Davis, Power Forward, Michigan State
SBNation's Bucks blog, Brew Hoop, explain their selection:
Though he played only 18 mpg as a freshman for Tom Izzo, Davis was a productive rim-runner and versatile defender for the Spartans, and the hope here is that he can eventually blossom into a two-way guy capable of manning the middle alongside Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He's got the frame and fluid athleticism to suggest he'll be capable of both protecting the rim and sticking with smaller guys in pick-and-roll, and he was productive enough on both ends to rate as a top-ten talent in most projection models.
Whether he develops the midrange stroke and offensive skill to be a high-level starter remains a question, but overall he looks like the kind of guy who could become a more consistent, higher-ceiling version of current Buck John Henson.
Ridiculous Upside analysis: With the Greg Monroe move looking like a mistake for the Bucks, the team's going to be in pursuit of a more defensive-minded big. Deyonta Davis might be that guy, as he averaged 3.9 blocks per 40 minutes with Michigan State. Alongside that, Davis is a tremendous offensive rebounder (4.4 offensive boards per 40) that has shown flashes of having a developing mid-range jumper.
