NBA Mock Draft Pick #6 -- Kris Dunn, Point Guard, Providence
SBNation's New Orleans Pelicans' blog, The Bird Writes, explains the pick:
With the sixth pick in the SB Nation Blogger Mock Draft the New Orleans Pelicans select Kris Dunn, point guard, Providence College. The front office is ecstatic to draft the best player available who also happens to fit the current roster and timeline. Kris Dunn is, unequivocally, the best point guard in this draft and will fit seamlessly into the backcourt beside Jrue Holiday. Most importantly, an explosive point guard who excels in the pick and roll is the ideal mate to pair with Anthony Davis.
Dunn's biggest impact, however, comes on the defensive end. There he will form a terrifying tandem with Jrue Holiday capable of handling every backcourt in the league. Two huge point guards, standing 6'4" each, Dunn and Holiday will be able to pressure and switch along the perimeter at will. The Pelicans have been a terrible defensive team for years now and we hope that a young trio of Davis (23), Dunn (22), and Holiday (26) will grow into an elite unit over the coming years in the Crescent City.
Ridiculous Upside analysis: This selection of Kris Dunn makes a load of sense for a Pelicans squad that just needs NBA-quality talent. Dunn definitely fits into that role as he looked like an NBA-ready guard when he was tearing it up with Providence. Averaging 16.4 points, 6.2 assists, 2.4 steals on 45% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc. That kind of two-way effectiveness should be helpful for a Pelicans squad looking for pieces to surround Anthony Davis.
