NBA Mock Draft: Denver Nuggets Select Zach LaVine from UCLA

New, 7 comments

SB Nation's NBA Network conducted a mock draft with bloggers from each team site making or trading "their" team's pick. We continue with the next pick in the 2014 NBA Mock Draft with Denver Stiffs selecting guard Zach LaVine from UCLA.

NBA Mock Draft Pick #11 -- Zach LaVine, Guard, UCLA

SB Nation's Nuggets blog Denver Stiffs explains the pick:

Zach LaVine may not be NBA ready yet, but I believe he has the highest ceiling of any of the guards that also garnered interest with this pick. His shooting ability and athleticism are impressive, no doubt, but so is his desire to be the best. You can't teach basketball awareness and drive and that's why we went with LaVine here. Patience will be key as it may take him a few seasons to really show what he has, but we believe that LaVine is worth the gamble.

In the stead, Randy Foye and Evan Fournier will still hold down the shooting guard spot for the Nuggets, but LaVine will test them and learn a lot from them both. For a team that has a lot of nice pieces, the Nuggets lack true star potential and with the 11th pick and LaVine aboard we think the prospect of a star is now on the roster.
